However, looking at the image, I can still see the error is very likely triggered by the translation memory. I would recommend creating a project from scratch without adding a TM, and without any project template, if you use one and see if you get same error.

Can you please confirm if you used the same TM in Studio 2022 trial, seen that you've mentioned you created other projects? Or is it in your current Studio version, Studio 2021? If so, please run a repair and reset of Studio 2022 trial, following the steps from this article:

After the repair and reset, try again ensuring you don't use the TM during project creation, and that you don't use any project template, so it's the default one.

We'll see how we can extend the troubleshoot from there, after your feedback.

Repair and reset done, and new default project created, without TM. Everything works fine. Do I add a TM now?

yes, please add now the TM and see if it works fine. If not, I would suggest checking the TM integrity with this app: https://appstore.rws.com/Plugin/41 

Also and as an alternative, try exporting the TM and create a new one from the exported .tmx file.

Needed to activate my license this morning as the trial was expired. Also installed the most recent update (17.1.7.17560). 
Don't know if it was the repair/reset, the acitivation or the update to version 17.1.7.17560 but it works :-)
