Purge Termbase based on age

Forgive me if I am not using the properly terminology but I am not a user of the product.  I am just the systems administrator that keeps the server up and running and updates the studio software on the client machines.   One of my users is asking if they can create a new Termbase that is only within a window of 2019-present.   Can anyone point me in the right direction to truncate the existing ermbase?

Thank you for your time.

  • Hello,

Based on your query, it seems you want to create a new Termbase that only includes entries from 2019 to the present. Unfortunately, there isn't a direct way to truncate or purge a Termbase based on the age of the entries within Trados Studio or MultiTerm.

However, you can achieve this by exporting the Termbase, filtering the entries based on the date in an external tool like Excel, and then importing the filtered entries into a new Termbase. Here's a step-by-step guide:

Step 1: Export the Termbase to an XML or Excel file. You can do this by opening MultiTerm, selecting the Termbase, and then choosing the 'Export' option.

Step 2: Open the exported file in Excel or another tool that can handle XML or Excel files.

Step 3: Filter the entries based on the date. In Excel, you can do this by using the 'Sort & Filter' feature on the 'Data' tab.

Step 4: Save the filtered entries as a new XML or Excel file.

Step 5: Create a new Termbase in MultiTerm.

Step 6: Import the filtered entries into the new Termbase. You can do this by selecting the new Termbase in MultiTerm, and then choosing the 'Import' option.

Please note that this process requires a good understanding of how to handle XML or Excel files, and how to use the import and export features in MultiTerm. If you're not comfortable with this, you might want to ask someone who is to help you.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
