Object reference not set to an instance of an object

This is an error that is happening now with me on a basic SRT (txt) file.

I have restarted my computer. Other suggestions see is to do a Reset. Hate doing Reset. Have to go back and redo all of your settings.

This is a brand new install (have reinstalled software a couple of time already). Using Trados Studio 2022 SR1 - 17.1.8.17828.

What causing this error.

Have you also updated the subtitling plugin? I'm afraid that between recent releases for Studio we have had to make several changes in the plugins so it's important to make sure you have the right ones.

The current versions are these for 2022:

Version 3.1.3.0

Checksum: abffb4a0cb544ba4a122bfaf1aba81ad006118d6

Supported products:

Trados Studio 2022 (SR1)

Version 3.0.2.1

Checksum: 970a42e84f0f4b97f11e11d38b21918c31843bf6

On this basis you need 3.1.3.0. So if you have properly cleaned out the packed and unpacked folders, installed 3.1.3.0, and still have this problem then we need to look at it.

I just checked and do have 3.1.3.0. Do you know when the version was put into Store? I believe that was the version originally added to programs.

Can you tell me if you are creating a single file project when this happens? We can only reproduce this in that scenario. So if you create a proper Studio project does this work for you?

I would have done this as a single translation. Other person might have done as project but cannot ask since now out of country.

If you do this then at first you will get that error. The reason is that the project is not really there yet until you save it. After saving it, you then need to close it and open it again, add your video and then it will work.

If you use a proper Studio project and not single file you won't get any errors at all.

We are unlikely to fix the single file workflow because it's a problem the Studio team would need to address that they may not wish to because the problem it causes in this subtitling workflow is actually an advantage for many users working with the single file translation flow. Without their "fix" if would be a ridiculously difficult problem to fix. So for now, the solution is to use a proper Studio project.

Ran as a Project and no error message.

Just to be clear. When you say close do you mean just use ctrl+F4 or close down the whole program and restart.

I tried both and it seems restart gets us the waveform option now.

Just close the project (not Studio) and then reopen it. Gives Studio the ability to do to the single file project what always happens when you create a proper project. That's why project templates are so cool because it makes it easy to quickly create a proper project. The single file project definitely has it's uses, but people like you (probably) and me, use it for quick testing so we often find problems nobody else has!!
