"Neutral cultures are not supported as the target language of the translation memory"

Hi, yesterday I got this error message everytime I confirmed a cell in a Trados file: "Neutral cultures are not supported as the target language of the translation memory". It does not seem really important, as I could confirm all the cells and work without any other problem. But it is quite a nagging thing to see this message all time.

When I asked my client, she said she did not have that problem at all.

Investigating a bit further, I found out that there was no target language set in the file, and that could not be changed. Again, I asked my client and she did not have that problem.

Anyone can help me with this? I use Trados Studio 2014, and never had this problem before.

Best regards,

Juan

It sounds to me that your client may have made the mistake of sending you the sdlxliff file from the source language folder of the project.  Some project managers do this so they only have to send one file to all the translators in all 40 languages of their project.  Seems a good idea, but is actually fraught with problems.

Or maybe you don't have the languages of the file have been sent installed?

If you open the sdlxliff as a single file project by using Ctrl+Shift+O can you share a screenshot of the first window that appears.  Should be something like this:

Screenshot showing the open single file for translation window and the detecection of the source and target languages.

Note that the target language is (optional) for me since I tried to open the sdlxliff from the source language folder where the target language has been set yet.
