Can I skip footnotes when translating an MS Word document?

Question

Can I skip footnotes when translating an MS Word document? Without hiding the footnotes in the MS Word first or doing anything with them before creating a Trados project? 
 I don't see any "Do not extract footnotes" option in the file type settings window.

 Yes, you can skip footnotes when translating an MS Word document in Trados Studio. Here's how you can do it: 
 Step 1: Open your project in Trados Studio. 
 Step 2: Go to the "Project Settings" window. 
 Step 3: Navigate to "File Types" and select "Microsoft Word 2007-2016". 
 Step 4: In the "Common" settings, you will find an option called "Extract comments and footnotes". Uncheck this box. 
 Step 5: Click "OK" to save your settings. 
 Now, when you open your document in the Editor view, the footnotes should not appear for translation. Please note that this will also skip any comments in the document. If you want to translate the comments but not the footnotes, you would need to manually hide the footnotes in the MS Word document before importing it into Trados Studio.

 I don&rsquo;t think it&rsquo;s possible not to extract footnotes in a Word document. The AI is hallutinating&hellip; 
 What you can do is to lock segments in footnotes. Would it be OK? 
 Footnotes have the FN descriptor in the Document Structure Information column (right olumn): 
 
 To filter segments belonging to footnotes, use the Advanced Filter Display , open the Document Structure Information tab and select the FN item: 
 
 Then click on the Apply Filter button on the left hand side. 
 Once all the segments are filtered, select them all and lokck them out.

I think you can skip footnotes much more easily, and this is something I just discovered. With your document open for translation, go to the Advanced Display filter and look under "Document Structure". There, you should see FN - Footnote. Select it and click on "Reverse" at the top of the Filter window. That hides the footnotes. If you click on "Apply Filter", then it will show only the footnotes. Of course this does not remove the footnotes from the document, it just hides them so you don't work on them.
