I have difficulties to handle Trados 2022 and InDesign files.

Hi, I am a new user on Trados Studio 2022. I have one problem. I have indd format files and exports them to idml format in InDesign 2024. However, in Trados Studio 2022, it doesn't recognize the only whole 3,860 English words well but also 20 Japanese words. The indd files are English documents which were originated in Japanese. Trados 2022 doesn't support all InDesign files? Any other tips or my mistakes on this process?

1. one of idml files (opened in InDesign 2024)

Screenshot of an IDML file opened in InDesign 2024 showing a document titled 'Basic 1 Stop and Go' with English text and graphics.

2. a status the idml file was opened in Trados 2022. All the words should be English and over 3,000 words but it shows Japanese and only 20 words.

Screenshot of Trados Studio 2022 interface displaying an error where an IDML file is not fully recognized, showing only 20 words detected instead of over 3,000 and some Japanese characters.

I cant see your image very well but typically what happens is InDesign has may layers and some of the layers have JP in them.
It's a case of finding them in the InDesign file and ensure they are hidden. If memory servers me correctly you can expose all layers and perhaps by doing a search you can try identify them.
A clue would be I think the JP is linked to cross References as noted in Studio via the Context Pane as seen in blue.

Second thing to watch out for is, ensuring the Studio File type being used has "Extract Content of hidden and locked layers" disabled.
If the JP is linked to cross references, you can try play with the "Extract cross reference format" to see what is parsed within Studio.

Trados Studio settings with 'Extract content of hidden and locked layers' option checked and highlighted with a red arrow.

Tip: As you play around with file formats (both native and options within Studio) try the following, as it save you having loads of troubleshooting projects created:

    • File - Options - File Types
    • Make your File amendments as you see fit
    • Use the preview file option below to see if the settings improve

Once you are happy, then create your project

Trados Studio file types options showing a list of supported file formats including Adobe InDesign and options for common extraction settings.

I do hope this helps a bit
