Is there a way to extract comments from Excel files in the alignment tool? I use Trados Studio 2021 and I don't see any option allowing that.

In your Project Settings:

This box is ticked in my settings. But that's for translation. When you align two documents, there's no project.

In fact, you have to tick this box under File > Options > File Types (= default settings) and then align your files. When you choose "Align Single File Pair", default settings will always apply and you can't modify them from the alignment tool.
But the link you sent made me realise it's the contrary when you choose "Align Multiple Files":
- If a project is active in "Projects" (i.e. most of the time), this project's settings will apply, and you can modify them if you want to.
- If you remove all projects from your list, default settings will apply, and you can modify them from there too.
