Avoid Acronym Translation - Trados 2022

Hello all,

I use Trados  2022 to translate some files from English to Arabic. I am using a custom made plugin (Custom model I trained with Azure AI). It works fine, However I face 2 issues:

1. The Acronyms not always translated correctly. I want to know how to avoid acronym translation in Trados 2022, So I want the segment be translated normally away from the Acronym stays as it is in English.

2. From time to time there's an error raise (Please, check the screenshot) Any tips to fix it?

Trados Studio error message stating 'An error has occurred while using the translation provider Microsoft Translator Provider: Value cannot be null.'

  • Hello,

    To address your issues:

    1. To avoid acronym translation in Trados 2022, you can use the "Do Not Translate" list feature. Here's how:

Step 1: Go to the "Project Settings" menu.

Step 2: Select "Language Pairs", then "All Language Pairs", and then "Translation Memory and Automated Translation".

Step 3: Click on the "Search" tab.

Step 4: In the "Do Not Translate" list, add the acronyms that you do not want to be translated.

Step 5: Click "OK" to save your settings.

This will ensure that the acronyms you specified will remain in English in your translations.

    2. Regarding the error you're encountering, it's difficult to provide a specific solution without knowing the exact error message. However, common issues can often be resolved by ensuring your software is up to date, restarting the program, or reinstalling the plugin. If the problem persists, it might be related to the custom plugin you're using, and you may need to reach out to the plugin developer for further assistance.

Remember, always keep your Trados Studio 2022 updated to the latest version to ensure optimal performance and to avoid any potential issues.

The AI is making this up!!!  There is no such feature.

I am using a custom made plugin (Custom model I trained with Azure AI)

I think the only way you'll be able to manage this will be by adding to your development the ability to have dictionary support so you can add your acronyms and tell them not to be translated.

  • Thanks Paul for your answer, Could I ask if there is any other way I can do by using Trados Studio and not the plugin itself as it is trained model and re-train it would be hard as It is made by the company I work in.

Additionally, Do you know any tips can help me with the second Issue I am facing?

Without more information, such as the full error detail, it's hard to know.  Presumably you're using the latest version of Studio, and also the latest version of the plugin?  Are you using OneDrive and are your files being synched to the cloud perhaps then removing them from your local drive?

Just guessing without the full error stack.
