Trados SR2 apps update

I received this e-mail and tried to update all my apps

Customer notification – Service Release 2 for Trados Studio 2022 is now available

Important:
After installing SR2, you will need to update your apps to ensure compatibility. The easiest way to do this is by using the built-in AppStore in Studio and selecting the "Update all" button.

I am not sure about what to do next as the "One moment" look like forever.

List of apps in Trados Studio AppStore with 'One moment' loading indicators next to each app name, suggesting a delay in updating or loading app information.

  • I guess we don't see the same things.
I would never consider delivering a translation like that one from ChatGPT 1.0 to my clients.

Segments 4 and 5 have the same source.
Why are 2 different translations in the target?

Segments 6 and 15 have the same source.
Why are 2 different translations in the target?

Segments 9, 10 and 10 have also the same source.
Why are there even more different translations in the target?

My keyword as a technical translator is "consistency".
My clients are not paying me for transcreation or fancy wording or some type of "hallucination".

Screenshot of Trados Studio showing inconsistent translations. Segments 4 and 5 have identical source text but different target translations. Segment 7 repeats the issue.

  • I have also some doubts about using "ressurect" (segment 7) for something or somebody else than Jesus, when the French « restaurez » is used. Probably a so-called "ChatGPT hallucination"

I forget to mention that segments 6, 8. 16 and 19 have the same source.
Why are 3 different translations in the target?

Quite a few issues that will keep us, human translator, busy for a very long time.

I think you may not really understand what this plug is for, or what I was doing... I did say it was a bit sarcastic.  It was just a way to show you the plugin was working and I used a prompt like this:

Name: Humour and sarcasm in translation?

    Prompt text: Provide 3 translations of this text from {0} into {1}, but inject some humour and sarcasm: {2}

Active: Show an explanation with the translation

Returning results that I asked for like this:

Screenshot of a software interface titled "OpenAI Translator", with a toolbar at the top including a search prompt labeled "Humour and s...". Below the toolbar, there is a text box with the French phrase "Ceci est un test" entered into it. Underneath, there are three translation suggestions, each with a note explaining the style or tone of the translation. The first translation reads "This is a test, because life isn't confusing enough already." with a note detailing the humorous and sarcastic undertone. The second translation says "Here we are again, yet another test." with a note about adding humour and sarcasm to the translation. The third says "Brace yourself, it's test time again." with a note mentioning a dramatic and sarcastic introduction. The interface elements such as buttons and search boxes are shown in a Windows style.

I have also some doubts about using "ressurect" (segment 7) for something or somebody else than Jesus, when the French « restaurez » is used. Probably a so-called "ChatGPT hallucination"

So that wasn't a hallucination at all, it was a deliberate action caused by my tongue in cheek prompt and intended to relate to Jesus.  Would this be better?

    Provide 3 translations of this text from {0} into {1}, written in the style of a very conscientoius human translator who only does this correctly: {2}

Screenshot of a software interface titled "OpenAI Translator", with a toolbar at the top including a prompt labeled "Professional...". Below the toolbar, there is a text box with the French phrase "Ouvrez la phrase et restaurez la source." entered into it. There are three translation suggestions provided. The first suggests "Open the sentence and restore the source." with a note explaining that it's a literal translation. The second is "Unfold the sentence and bring back the source." with a note discussing the attempt to capture nuances with words like "unfold" and "bring back". The third suggestion is "Decipher the sentence and retrieve the source." with a note on the interpretive approach taken, using "decipher" and "retrieve" to imply a deeper meaning. Each suggestion has an accompanying note that provides context on the translation approach. The interface is styled with Windows elements, including buttons and dropdown menus.

Segments 4 and 5 have the same source.
Why are 2 different translations in the target?

Because I was playing... this is not serious and I deliberately chose different results for each segment!

My keyword as a technical translator is "consistency".
My clients are not paying me for transcreation or fancy wording or some type of "hallucination".

Then please recognise that this tool is there for you to design the appropriate prompt to suit the translations you are doing.  This plugin is not an MT provider.  It's more of a means to explore options and help with a translation.  Ultimately you are the professional translator and this is just a tool!

  • Paul,
I know that it is just another tool and I was just prompted to tease about "resurrect" as it was funny to see it in there.
Every single one of the MT tools produce at times their own hilarious results. Thank you for your hard work in helping the community to perform better, close this solved "One moment" issue and move to the next one.
    Have a great weekend!
