Error: "Service 'Sdl.Desktop.Platform.Services.ITelemetryService' could not be started."

Hello everyone!

When trying to open Trados I receive the following error message: "Service 'Sdl.Desktop.Platform.Services.ITelemetryService' could not be started."

I have already tried this workround, this one too and also tried Repairing with Trados Freshstart.

Any tips? This is quite urgent

  • Hello,

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing this issue. Based on the error message you're receiving, it seems like there might be an issue with your Trados Studio settings or the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) on your computer. Here are some steps you can follow to try and resolve this issue:

Step 1: Reset Trados Studio Basic Settings

    1. Close Trados Studio if it's open.

    2. Navigate to the folder where the Trados Studio settings are stored. This is usually in a location like C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\[Version Number]\.

    3. Rename the 'BaseSettings.xml' file to something like 'BaseSettings_old.xml'.

    4. Start Trados Studio again. It will create a new 'BaseSettings.xml' file with the default settings.

    Step 2: Reset the WMI

    1. Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.

    2. Type 'cmd' and press Enter to open the Command Prompt.

    3. In the Command Prompt, type 'net stop winmgmt' and press Enter. This will stop the WMI service.

    4. Next, type 'winmgmt /resetrepository' and press Enter. This will reset the WMI.

    5. Finally, type 'net start winmgmt' and press Enter to start the WMI service again.

Please note that you should only perform these steps if you're comfortable with making these changes to your computer. If you're not, or if these steps don't resolve the issue, you might want to consider reaching out to a professional for further assistance.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
