Trados Studio 2022 - issue with character count with track changes

Bonjour!

Just found out what it seems to be a bug in Trados Studio 2022.

When we review a segment with the track changes, Trados also includes the deleted caracters in the caracter count, so we can't keep the track changes and ensure that the segment respects the limit.

In the example below, the new word 'Magasiner' is below the limit of 10 caracters, but I still have a QA error on that, because Trados also counted the letters of 'Boutique'.

Screenshot of Trados Studio 2022 showing a QA error message indicating an incorrect term 'MAGASINER' and a paragraph unit exceeding the maximum length of 10, current length 17.

As a workaround, just to ensure that the length restriction is not exceeded, select No Markup in the Review ribbon:

Trados Studio Review ribbon showing Track Changes dropdown with No Markup selected, Next, Previous, and Accept buttons visible.

When you are done with the length verification of all segments, you can then select Show Markup:

Trados Studio Track Changes dropdown with Show Markup option highlighted.

Anyway, I think this should be addressed by RWS. ?

  • Hi Jesús,

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, it seems that your workaround doesn't fix the QA error.

I've just tried the 'No markup' option, but the QA Message still shows a length error.

Hopefully the RWS team will look into this.

    Thank you again! Slight smile

  • ,

I quickly tested it yesterday before replying your post and it seemed to work on my Trados Studio 2022 (latest build).I won’t be able to test it till tomorrow…

After setting to No Markup, you need to confirm that segment again, so the length limit will be checked again (or pressing F8 to check al segments). Is this what you are doing?

  • Hi Jesus,

I've just updated my version (Trados Studio 2022 SR2 - 17.2.8.18668) and tried it again.

I've opened the file for review, clicked on No Markup, then modified the segment. I've clicked on F8 to ensure Trados makes a new QA. But I still have the issue.

I've also created a new project (after the software update) and did the same test. Same issue. It's an Excel file, with caracter limits imported from one column. Maybe the test you have done was with a different file format? Or with caracter limits in the QA checker?

I think I've found the issue (and why you don't have it). Just tried something else: this is actually working with 'Open for translation', but not with 'Open for review'. I guess the bug is there, with the review feature.

It's for an exercise with my students, so I want to make sure that evertyhing is working properly. If I ask them to review with track changes, respect caracter limits and run Q, then it should work with the review mode.

    Thanks again for your help,

    Julie

  • Hi

You are right: The length limit is not properly handled in Review mode when track changes are on and with some deleted characters.

In order to set this post as unanswered, please Reject my answer at the top. In this way, RWS will have a look at this post hopefully.
