Trados Studio: SLOW! A common problem... but can't find any answers: have you?

Like many of you, I have been searching everywhere for an answer to the slow loading of documents in Trados Studio.

But can't find an answer anywhere on this forum (see, e.g. (+) Trados is so slow... - 5. Machine Translation - Trados Studio - RWS Community)

I'm new to Trados... and in the next week, I have the option of renewing my WF package... which is very tempting because even loading a simple Trados file takes 10 minutes.

And, yes, I have the latest system. And yes, I have the latest Trados. And yes, I have tried everything that I have understood from the Forum suggestions - but the idea that I am going to do anything hyper-technical when my Studio is brand-new, my computer is brand-new... BMW don't ask me to go under the bonnet of my new car if it won't accelerate! (not that I have a BMW).

So, anyone have any anti-slow solutions?

BMW don't ask me to go under the bonnet of my new car if it won't accelerate

BMW don't expect to have other things installed on their engine that could impact its performance and they know nothing about.  I am sympathetic but don't really understand these car analogies.  It's not the same at all.

If you are interested to look further it would be helpful to know what security software you have running?  That's probably the biggest culprit.  I purchased a new laptop for home use last month and everything ran smoothly and fast apart from Trados.  The computer, a Dell, came with McAfee AV and nothing I did could make Trados move faster, so I am familiar with your frustration.  I spent quite some time with McAfee support and they could not help and didn't think their suite was the problem.  Disabling it didn't help, so in the end I removed McAfee completely and the difference was remarkable!  Makes me very suspicious of the way these security systems work.  Certainly they do far more than is necessary in my opinion... probably because that's how they sell their software by frightening the life out of you!

I just tested your file by adding it to a project and it took around 15 seconds to add it to a project, run a batch task to prepare it and open it in the editor.  I also opened it as a single file project in less than 5 seconds.

Hi there - thanks for the advice... I'll have another go.

The analogy is simple: I expect a product to work when I buy it. Especially when this glitch seems relatively common. What I don't understand at all is this: when a product does not work, when you follow the advice (not just on this excellent forum but also via email with Trados) and it still does not work - and the manufacturer turns to you and says: Pay for 3 months cover and we will help you... What?! You're pulling my plonker. Trados has never worked properly on my machine, and now I have to pay to repair someone to look under the bonnet?  It's as though I've been sold a BMW that only works on B roads and not motorways! It's a metaphor, nothing more, nothing less.

    Thanks again for your help.
