How to Improve Translation Memory (TM) prioritization

We are looking to improve the match results from the TM.

What was asked of me to see if can be done is this.

1st: At time the TM results will give the name and date of confirmation well in the past even though someone recently confirmed very similar segment.   How can we ensure that we get results from current translators or most current date of confirmation?

2nd: When there is only a one or two word difference in search results is there a way to get these results to show up?  Recently it seems more likely that when this situation happens the Machine Translation TM connection will populate the segment over our TM.

We do have specific language in Language Pairs listed before the MT engine.

We are currently using: Trados Studio 2022 SR2 - 17.2.8.18668

There are a number of things that factor in searching of TM then sorting of hits and listing as you see in the Translation Results window.

    You specifically ask:

How can we ensure that we get results from current translators or most current date of confirmation?

Please check to see if your "Show most recent translation first" option has been enabled as seen below.

    You also mention

Recently it seems more likely that when this situation happens the Machine Translation TM connection will populate the segment over our TM.

There is another option "Look up segments in MT even if a TM match has been found" that if enabled means you will get both a TM match as well as a MT match, which could be deemed unnecessary given you say

there is only a one or two word difference in search results

Trados Studio settings showing 'Search Options' with 'Show most recent translations first' checkbox checked.

Given you are keen to prioritise TM leverage its worth exploring filters.

Trados Studio filter settings with 'Add Filter' dialog open, showing 'Last modified on' condition set to a specific date and time.

Filters could be based on the default metadata captured like date range - or based on custom filters (fields). Working with fields and filters is a great way to do data cleansing and to help prioritise TM reuse.
With regards to default metadata, I would suggest looking at segment usage count and last used on. More information of this can be found here

If you want to see a bit more about how custom fields can further help prioritise TM leverage perhaps this sort recording will be of help: https://www.trados.com/resources/prioritizing-your-translation-memories

I hope this has given you some food for thought

Thank you for the information.  The checkbox items you show above do have unchecked and checked as you show.  I will have to double check with some of the team to see if they changed at all.

Will have to look further into these filters.  They would likely have to be customized for each language and maybe each translator.  One thing I am wondering is are these filters saved in the Profile.  If having to Reset Trados (amazed how many times that is the last option to fix an issue), or upgrade to new version, how much cannot be saved and brought back in when either of these situations is completed.

    Again--thanks

Filters may it be for updating purposes or penalties are saved at project level, not under user profile settings. So your concern over Resetting Studio when needed should not have an impact.

This also means you can use project templates to manage this across teams who subsequently work on the project in question.
