Trados Studio 2022 SR2 takes ages (really) to open single files or merged files

Hi all,

The issue I'm encountering was already present in Trados Studio 2022 and SR1, and hasn't changed a bit after updating to SR2.

It's very simple: it takes several minutes to open ordinary files for edition, and opening several files at once is sometimes impossible (the progress bar gets stuck at 100%, and is still that way after cleaning the kitchen AND tidying the living-room).

I'm talking about *local* files, coming from regular Trados projects that are located on my *laptop*, between 300KB and 5MB each. They used to open so well in Trados 2021. I'm not using any cloud/online resource.

Once it's open (when it does), Trados is a breeze and I love it just like I loved all of its predecessors. Studio 2022 is the only version of Trados where I've had such issues. And it's driving me mad because I don't like to open files in Trados Studio 2021 just to get work done. Trados Studio 2022 is better.

Do you have any clue? What sort of plug-ins, TMs, TBs or options should I try to change or disable?

Thank you!

Changed "desktop" to "laptop". I was thinking "desktop computer", not the actual Windows Desktop.

  • A quick update and summary

Thanks again  and for taking the time to help me yesterday. Things are much better now, and I thought I'd give a quick update in case it helps other users.

    Step 1:

    • I switched to "high performance" mode in my Asus settings to use my full CPU power
    • I added Trados Studio 2022, my work folders and filetype "sdlxliff" to MS Security exclusion list
    • I disabled all plug-ins in Trados Studio 2022 (Antidote, xBench, a customer plug-in, Google MT, MXLIFF file type)

Result  I was then able to merge/open the files in the project I was working on in a very reasonable time! What a relief! But I need my precious plug-ins, so I moved to step 2

    Step 2:

    • I restored each of my plug-ins one by one, restarting Trados and re-opening my files each time.

Result No change, it was still as fast as after step 1, so I kept all of my plug-ins. I was really scared my Antidote or xBench agent was the culprit.

I can't tell whether it's the MS Security settings or the CPU performance setting that helped most. Based on what you told me, I think they're both as useful, and I don't think I'll investigate more for now.

    Thank you Slight smile
