Can you just double check that in 2021 you are not hiding formatting tags in the editor view?  Obvious one I know, but worth a quick check as you may not be comparing apples with apples.

I understand that you have to ask that but yes, both editors are in Show all tags but do not show formatting. Please check the CM and untranslated markers on the screenshots above.

This is really not a visualization problem, it's a pretranslation problem of the IDML filter, how it internally handles the CharacterStyleRange element in the different versions Studio 2021 and 2022.

Same file, one pretranslation in 2021 (99%) and the other in 2022 (58%):

Here a different word count of a diffent IDML, other customer. On the left pretranslation in 2022, on the right in 2021.

After opening the files in the editor, I can see that the affected untranslated segments contain IDML tags like the above.

I can provide sample files if needed but as far as I can see this, most IDML files should be affected.

Perhaps Patrik Mazanek had a quick answer for this one as he knows this better than anyone else.

There was additional improvement done in the file type, I think it will be delivered as part of Studio 2022 CU10 - it can be also tested in Trados Cloud where the change is already present.

Yes, some of the cases where extra formatting tags were added previously should be working better. This might not be 100% solution for the document you struggle with, needs to be tested.

OK, if you're still working on the filter, I beg you to remove the extra tags as much as possible. I don't want to be dramatic here, but currently we lose about half of the CMs with this IDML filter and I really don't know how to explain our clients that they have to pay extra because our translation tool has an "improved" IDML filter. This means for project creation, we still have to stick to Studio 2021.

We've tested pretranslations in CU10 today. The problems seems to be solved now. Thank you Paul and Patrik!
