Translation Memory Plus Machine Translation

Hi,

I'm currently running Trados Studio 2021 SR2 - 16.2.12.9338 with the DeepL Translator Provider plugin.

I want a workflow that enables any 100% match to come from my translation memory, and all other translations to come from MT.

If I create a project with a translation memory, and set the "minimum match value" to 75% I see the following behavior:

  • 100% context matches from the translation memory auto translate
  • 99%-75% matches from the translation memory appear as "fuzzy" matches (not what I want)
  • 75% or less is Machine Translated.

I have tried setting the "minimum match value" to 100 but the behavior seems to be:

  • 100% context matches from the translation memory auto translate
  • 99%-75% matches show as empty on the target side of an edit. When I put the cursor in the target segment I see it showing the fuzzy match from the memory (not what I want)
  • 75% or less is Machine Translated.

How can I achieve the following behavior?

  • 100% matches from the translation memory are auto translated
  • Anything less than a 100% match is Machine Translated

Can anyone help with how to achieve this?
Thanks

Mark

  • IIRC, there are two settings that control this. There is a minimum match value in the project settings for the TM settings as well as a minimum match value for the Pre-translate batch task. Try setting both to 100%, running a pre-translate and see if that helps.

  • Hi Michael,

    Thanks for your suggestion.

The "Minimum Match Value" setting at the project level is also used as the value in the pre-translate. If you change the project value to something obscure like 88%, then go an do a pre-translate you'll see it also changes to the same value.

In my project, I have already set it to 100% and that also appears in the pre-translate screen.

    Cheers

I wonder if you are attempting to change the setting in File -> Options and not the Project Settings?  That would obviously have no effect whatsoever on your project now as it's too late.

Setting the search values to 100% should be enough... for example:
