Google Translate API billing

Hi everyone!

My organisation is working with Trados Studio 2019 using the Google Translate API.

We now need to find out what projects we have been translating using the API, how many words they account for, and so on. Is this info stored anywhere in Trados?

We have logged in the Google Cloud services, but the invoices are not detailed, they just state the final amount, but not what/how many projects have been translated, word count, etc. We weren't able to find anything useful there.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Best,

Carmina

I think the only way you'll be able to do this is to make a few assumptions.

    • you presumably have an analysis of these projects
    • in the analysis for each project you know how many of the words are NEW/AT

So you would use this wordcount for each project and split your overall bill from Google into the same ratio.  Obviously it won't take account of any interactive work, but that won't be recorded at all.

I guess going forward you could create API keys for each project because I think you can report on this... but don't quote me on it!  The Google Console is an absolute nightmare to work with!!
