Studio is not translating. Error 4096 pops up

Hi,

My first problem has been solved, now I have another one. Studio is not translating. Error pops up: 4096 is an invalid locale id Culture is not supported. Parameter name: culture. 4096 (0x1000) is an invalid culture identifier.

Any ideas?

Thank you

  • Hi Fiona,

Can you confirm what you are translating?  Is it a package you received from someone, or did you create your own project with your own Translation Memories?  I haven't seen this error since 2009 and it was related to a custom culture from a Nokia application which isn't recognised by Studio.

I think the first thing to do is make sure you have a fully patched version of Studio 2014.  I know you said you just took an update but that could be an update for an earlier Service Pack.  Please can you check if you have this version in the help about : SDL Trados Studio 2014 SP2 - 11.2.4422.11

If you do then I guess a quick search for any Nokia applications you have installed might be a good idea in case it's the same problem reoccurring.  Uninstall it temporarily and see if this resolves the Studio problem.  Butu if you don't, or if this doesn't help anyway, please log a case through the solution finder.

    Go to the Knowledgebase and then go to the tab called Solution Finder and now go here;

    Download & Installation Problems

    - I use SDL Trados Studio and/or SDL MultiTerm 2009, 2011, 2014 or 2015

-- The installation went fine but now I get an error message etc

--- The problem occurs in (pick the appropriate tool/s)

---- None of the articles resolved my problem (if they didn’t!)

Follow the route for your problem and if there is no answer that helps by the time you get to the end you'll be presented with a form to contact support.  Complete all the fields in the form making sure your email address is entered correctly or nobody will be able to get back in touch with you.

Also use the Chrome browser to log the case if you have it; you'll get more success in completing the form.

    Regards

    Paul

  • Dear Fiona and Paul,
I'm now having the same issue. I'm using the latest Studio 2014 version (11.2.4422.11) to open an ES-LA project created by my client and get the same pop-up. Have no Nokia related applications on my PC. I will log this case with SDL support, but since the project is on-going and I know that it can take a while to get the feedback from support, is it something to worry about? Can the files get corrupt if we ignore the message and translate them?
    Thanks,
    Dace

    Hi Dace,

Your problem is probably caused because your client is either using a different version of windows to you, or/and a later version of Studio to you.  For example, I have Studio 2015 and I have Windows 7 installed.  I have no es-LA available to me.  The ES language group for W7 contains these only:

Now normally Studio tries to map unknown languages to something else, but if it doesn't you will see a message as you have done.  My guess (hope) is that 2015 will map it, and I can test this for you if you send me the package?  But 2014 was prior to W10 which may be the cause of this with many more languages available.

I believe this is just a warning and not anything that will prevent you from handling the project.  But if you're worried you could translate a single sentence and create a return package for your client to test.  You can create as many return packages as you like.

    Regards
