Identical project names allowed for local and server-based projects

In Groupshare or even locally (as long as the folder location is different) you can create a project with the same name twice.

In Groupshare the name is identical to the user but is stored in SQL with different GUIDS.

This happened at our office accidentally and it was really confusing! I feel this should be disallowed or at least a warning.

How does the community feel?

  • Hi Jesse,

ok - understood. My personal view on this is it's something that is best controlled by a rather dull filing system that ensures you never have a duplicate name (maybe sequential numbers, or date/time at the start) as this also takes the work out of naming a project in the first place. But I can see how such a check might be useful. I guess it might get tricky though if you have separate organisations in GroupShare, all independent of each other and creating projects. Why should they be restricted in their choice of names because someone they don't know or care about decided to use the same one already? How far do you take the checking across GroupShare?

In some ways it could be a feature that attracts a lot of complexity and effort for very little reason. But let's see how much support you get for this idea.

    Regards
