Trados 2024 and LanguageTool

Whenever a new version of Trados Studio comes out there is that tunnel, that dark patch to get through until Darek publishes an update of his LanguageTool add-on.

This time it was painful enough to look for an alternative solution, and there is one, also free. It's not as convenient as Darek's plug-in/add-on, but it works, so I wanted to share it here.

Part of the Okapi Toolkit is a QA tool called CheckMate. You can set up LT in Checkmate (I'm running it on my machine, that at least works fine.), then add the SDLXLIFF files from the target folder of your project to the “Session” in CheckMate and in Session settings select “Re-check documents automatically when they change.” Every time you save your Trados Studio file(s), you will get an updated list of issues LanguageTool or any of the other QA elements in CheckMate found.

I know it's not ideal, but it is way better than anything else I could come up with. Here's the download page: https://okapiframework.org/wiki/index.php

Or maybe somebody here on the forum knows a better solution?

  • Hi Daniel,

the Checkmate tool seems really handy and connecting it with Languagetool desktop is relatively easy... thanks so much for pointing this out.

But I have a problem that I was wondering if you could maybe help me solve: when I add files to a Checkmate session, I have to select them one by one...
Are you aware of any way to batch select files in a folder or to directly select a folder and all its contents?

Selecting the files one by one is rather boring when you have a large batch...
Thanks in advance for whatever help you may give me

    Kind regards
