MS Word spellchecker does not work properly

Hello.

This is an old issue. Ever since I started using Trados Studio on october 2017 MS Word spellchecker does not work smoothly.:

- MS Word spellchecker is difficult to activate (an error message appears and after some retries it activates, and  sometimes I need to quit and restart Studio to make it work).

- "Check spelling as you type" crashes. Only solution, quit and restart Studio.

I use a Microsoft 365 license which means my Office apps are always updated. During all these years I have changed computers many times. Thus, it is not my Office apps, neither my computer.

Unfortunately, the Spanish-English and viceversa Hunspell dictionaries are poor in content, so it is not practical to use with complex translations.

Two questions:

Is ti possible that I am the only user suffering this issue or interested in being able to use MS Word spellchecker?

Is there a final solution for this issue that I am not aware of?

Please help.

You may not be the only one, but surely this affects only a minority of Studio users.
I have been using Word Spellchecker in Studio since more than 10 years without any problems and this also is true for most of my clients. There are also only a few posts about such a problem in this community, one of them was related to macro security, but I don't expect this to be your case because this would trigger an error message like the one in this thread.
This does not mean that I am playing down your problem, but it is difficult to guess what is causing this.
A few things I would suggest:

    • A repair of your Office installation?
    • Recreating the NORMAL.DOT template?
    • Check macro security.

or even completely uninstall Office 365 and reinstall it.
