Parameter not valid/Trados blocked

Hi,

I also had this problem with the new Trados 2024, as quoted by many other users: "Parameter not valid" popped up, then no editing or anything else possible... for a urgent project, of course...

I spent (or better said, lost) 1 hour reading the corresponding posts about this problem. Fortunately, my husband and also IT-specialist recommended to try the font size adaptation, as quoted by Shosaku, and NOT all these time-consuming and fragile workarounds, for example in editing xml-files as mentioned in the various posts. Result: it worked, "just" by putting the font back to "standard" (instead of "Arial") for my language.

To put it politely, I am quite astonished that:

1. I paid nearly 400€ for an update with such a bug

2. This huge problem (Trados totally blocked) is "only" due to a trivial font-drawing problem.

I´ve been working with Trados since 2011, satisfactorily until now. The huge price increase for this late update though is out of proportion, and this bug is  unacceptable in my eyes. I will certainly not buy a new update before very long...

Best regards,

Anne

It's one of those "trivial" problems that is actually not so trivial at all and is actually quite complex under the surface.  Trados Studio recently underwent a significant update, including a complete overhaul of the Editor’s underlying technology to enhance font rendering, particularly for Unicode-compliant fonts.  While this update greatly improves clarity and compatibility, Trados Studio still allows any installed font to be used, including those that aren’t fully Unicode-compliant.  As a result, selecting a font like Arial, which lacks full Unicode support, can lead to a problem such as the one you’ve experienced.

Switching to the default font, as you’ve done, should address this.  For some flexibility with more comprehensive Unicode support, you could consider using fonts such as Arial Unicode MS (an extended version of Arial), Segoe UI, or Noto Sans, which offer broader character coverage and hopefully wouldn't cause a problem like this.
