The verify function of the Trados 2024 computer software has a bug and is still unreliable, providing false or incorrect verify reports.

Trados 2024 desktop , the term has already been used and is a 100% match. But after verify, why does the term still raise an error for not being used?

Screenshot of Trados Studio with error messages. A term 'Inspeccion del componente activo del transformador' is highlighted as a 100% match, yet an error message states the translated term for 'Tuerca' is expected.

Trados Studio interface showing a list of terms with one highlighted. An error message indicates a missing translation for 'Tuerca', despite the term being correctly used in the translation.

the problem has been existing for years in trados studio computer software, please fix it.

"Question improvement suggestion": Please provide more details such as the exact version of Trados Studio you are using, the operating system of your computer, and any error messages you are receiving. Also, let us know if there have been any recent changes to your system or software.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

I understand that you're experiencing issues with the verify function in Trados Studio. This issue could be due to a number of reasons, including a corrupted termbase or a software bug.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue:

Step 1: Ensure that you're using the latest version of Trados Studio. You can check for updates within the application.

Step 2: Try recreating the termbase used in the project. Corrupted terms are usually deleted when a termbase is recreated. These need to be added to the termbase again, either via Trados Studio or MultiTerm.

Step 3: If the issue persists, you may want to consider reinstalling Trados Studio. Please ensure to back up your projects and settings before doing so.

Step 4: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it might be a software bug. In this case, you can report the issue to the RWS AppStore for further investigation.

I hope this answer addressed your question. If not, please reject the answer, add the question improvement suggestion information, and click the RWS Community AI checkbox on the right to try again.

Sometimes the response is only as good as the question!

I took some time to create a sample file, a small one that should reproduce the error if it's so obvious, and this is my result:

Trados Studio interface showing a table with source text in Chinese characters and corresponding Spanish translations. An information dialog box reads 'Verification complete. No errors were reported.'

Segment #4 is a bit odd for me because in Microsoft Word the fonts are different for these characters... probably my fault for not using a unicode compliant font but at least it explained why that segment didn't get recognised for me.

The rest didn't return any error at all.  These were my settings:

Trados Studio Project Settings window with 'Verification' selected, showing 'Verification settings' with a term base name field and a checked option for 'Check for possible non-usage of the target terms' set to 'Warning'.

Here's my files if you want to test yourself:

    0456.test_files.zip

If you cannot reproduce this with my files then please provide some files that you can.  But don't send huge files with everything you have.  Take a little time and see if you can create a couple of small sample files, like I have done, that can be used to validate your findings.

  • Dear Mr. Paul,

Thank you for your guidance and response.

Thank you for your testing. I understand that your test results are correct because, for the same translation project, when I open Trados Studio 2024 (desktop client) at two different times, sometimes the software can correctly recognize and verify terms, but sometimes it cannot. There seems to be something peculiar about term recognition and verification in Trados Studio 2024 (desktop client), as it sometimes works properly and sometimes does not.

I have noticed that for some translation projects with term recognition issues, reopening them a few weeks later resulted in some terms appearing correctly. However, term recognition in Trados Studio 2024 (desktop client) remains unstable. The verification of term usage in the Review > Verify function of Trados Studio 2024 (desktop client) is also inconsistent, sometimes producing inaccurate verification reports. This issue is not limited to projects containing Chinese language but also affects projects in other languages like Russian and so on. I have encountered similar problems multiple times and have kept screenshots as evidence of these functional issues. Despite this, testing on your end shows normal results. Unfortunately, the instability of Trados Studio 2024 (desktop client) has led to inconsistency in the quality of our managed translation projects.

Screenshot of Trados Studio 2024 with a document open, showing no term recognition for 'Zhao Hui Li' despite being in the termbase.

Trados Studio 2024 screenshot displaying term 'Zhao Hui Li' recognized after reopening the document weeks later.

Term recognition and verification should be straightforward tasks, similar to the find and replace function in Microsoft Word. If terms exist, they should be recognizable, or at least display matching values and provide prompts. However, there are instances where terms are present but not marked with red line on the top of the terms, or terms are used but the verification process incorrectly informs the user that they have not been used.

This phenomenon might seem peculiar, and as users, we can only state that these functions in Trados Studio 2024 (desktop client) are unstable, though we are unsure of the underlying cause. Nonetheless, this is indeed a bug. Please continue to investigate and resolve this issue, perhaps utilizing ChatGPT to identify which parts of the software code are causing this instability.

Additionally, Trados Studio 2024 (desktop client) does not support quick term addition efficiently. Each time a term is added quickly, the entire termbase pops up on the left, significantly slowing down the term addition process. We hope this issue can be addressed as well. Thank you.

Image of Trados Studio 2024 with the 'Quick Add New Term' function highlighted, indicating a slow term addition process.

Trados Studio 2024 interface with the termbase viewer open, showing a note about slow performance when quickly adding terms.

We look forward to Trados Studio 2024 (desktop client) becoming more robust and stable.

    Best regards

    Jack

Can you provide the full path to where you store your termbase?

Does this also happen when working with Cloud Terminology?  Have you tested that?

However, term recognition in Trados Studio 2024 (desktop client) remains unstable.

Could be related to the above.  Have you tested this with the Cloud as well?

Additionally, Trados Studio 2024 (desktop client) does not support quick term addition efficiently. Each time a term is added quickly, the entire termbase pops up on the left, significantly slowing down the term addition process.

Have you tried docking in place so it doesn't pop-up as it's always there?

Have you tried working with this app... just as an idea?  Might be better?

We took a different approach with this app to try and specifically avoid that very problem.

  • Dear Mr. Paul,

Thank you for your help and reply. Here is my path: "D:\01 翻译办公厅\11 翻译术语库TB"   Previously, I saved the terminology database in a real-time synchronized partition on OneDrive, but now I am using a separate local hard drive partition that is not linked to OneDrive in any way. Additionally, this path is relatively short, ;but, we have not been able to identify the cause of the instability in terminology recognition and verification in Trados Studio over the past several years. However, the frequent instability in terminology recognition and verification has often led to inconsistent translation quality, resulting in user complaints and even compensation issues for clients due to inconsistent terminology in translations.

Furthermore, I understand that RWS Trados is investing significant resources in developing cloud products. However, as users, we have limited use of Trados cloud products for the following reasons:

    1. As project managers for translations, we handle a large number of projects daily, so software speed and efficiency are crucial. I previously attempted to update the terminology database and perform related operations on Trados cloud products, but I found the speed to be noticeably slower, which is not suitable for translation project management.

    2. Many users in China often encounter direct network connection failures in Trados Studio, making the cloud products currently unsuitable for us.

    3. Additionally, from a data confidentiality perspective, many users prefer to handle all files on their local computers rather than having them processed in the cloud.

Thank you for recommending this plugin; I will give it a try. At the same time, I hope that Trados Studio 2024 can directly address the functionality of quickly adding new terms on the desktop software, allowing users to add terms with a single click directly in Trados Studio (the desktop client).

    Best regards

    Jack

  • Screenshot of Trados Studio with a 'Connection error' notification stating 'No internet connection. Trados Studio requires an internet connection to sync your cloud project files. Check your network and try again.' with a 'Retry' button.

Trados Studio cloud products can not be connected smoothly even if we use VPN to have fast access to google or youtube.  We hope that Trados Studio (the computer software ) have all the functions and capabilities,. since this is the most frequently used software for translators.
