Comments on URLs are not exported into the Target File

Hi everyone,

Just a quick question: I recently realised that if I add a comment in Trados on URLs, then my comment doesn't get exported into the Target File. For example:

Source Text:

In Trados:

Screenshot of Trados Studio interface showing source and target translation segments for a text about Umbriel with a comment added to a URL.

Target File:

Screenshot of a text document with a translated paragraph about Umbriel in French.

In my project settings, I do have the setting enabled to retain comments from Studio into the Target File:

Screenshot of Trados Studio project settings with options for file types and comments, including 'Retain Studio target comments in target file' checked.

Is this actually normal behaviour, am I missing a specific setting, or is this a bug?

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

    Is this actually normal behaviour

Based on what you have done, yes this is entirely expected :-)

You cannot add a comment to the underlying url.  Word has nowhere to put it.  If you want to comment on the url then add it against the word that had the url applied:

Screenshot of a Trados Studio segment comparison, showing text in English on the left and its translation in Romanian on the right, with comments and formatting tags.

Then it will work just fine.

The fields you extracted are actually optionally extracted.  You'd only do this if you wanted to be able to edit the url.  If you don't need to it makes sense to not extract them at all.  You'll still have the tags that contain the detail about it being a url on the word itself.
