Sentence Based Segmentation Rules Add/Edit Error "Value cannot be null. Parameter name: item"

When attempting to add or edit a sentence based segmentation rule in the Language Resources of a new or existing TM, I expect to see the "Edit Segmentation Rule" window as displayed in this screenshot that I took last month:

Screenshot of Trados Studio's 'Edit Segmentation Rule' window with options for 'Full stop rule' including checkboxes for 'Check abbreviations', 'Check Ordinal Followers', and 'Include closing punctuation'.

However, I now see the following error message:

Screenshot of Trados Studio showing 'Translation Memory Settings - Example' with an error message window stating 'Value cannot be null. Parameter name: item'.

This is occurring in Trados Studio 2024 - 18.0.1.2259 on a Windows 11 OS with all updates installed.

I did not see this error earlier this month before I installed the latest updates.

I have attempted the following resolutions without any success:

  • Searching this forum for a similar issue - I see many unresolved issues for errors "Value cannot be null", and none involve segmentation rules
  • Restarting
  • Repairing the installation
  • Uninstalling and reinstalling
  • Deactivating all plugins (Trados Copilot - AI Assistant and LanguageWeaverProvider)
  • Using new/existing projects
  • Using new/existing TMs
  • Using different language pairs

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide

P.S. This discussion post form appears to have some issues:

1. The forum's sentiment analysis also appears to be broken:

Screenshot of Trados Studio's sentiment analysis tool displaying an error with placeholders '$sentresponse.Label' and '$sentresponse.Score' instead of actual values.

2. The link to the list of forums is dead

Screenshot of a forum post with a section highlighted advising to 'Choose the right forum - Check out the list of forums here' with a red box around 'here'.

Screenshot of a web page with a 'Not Found' error message stating 'Unfortunately, the page you've requested no longer exists.'

    1. The forum's sentiment analysis also appears to be broken:

Must have been a temporary glitch... it's there now and working

    2. The link to the list of forums is dead

Thank you.  I don't think we actually need that bit anymore as we found a better way to ensure the correct forums are used by intercepting the posts before it gets posted and using AI to evaluate the content and suggest a more appropriate forum if necessary.  That actually saves us a ton of administration in moving posts as so many users just post anywhere without checking.  I'll either get it removed, or just remove the link so any further changes won't catch us out!

     fyi :-)

    On your Trados question...

This is occurring in Trados Studio 2024 - 18.0.1.2259 on a Windows 11 OS with all updates installed.

I did not see this error earlier this month before I installed the latest updates.

I can actually reproduce this on W10 and also W11 without the latest updates.  It maybe logged already, but I'll log it again to be sure.  Thanks for reporting it.
