Access to path denied for autosave on OneDrive

In recent months using Studio 2022, I started experience crashes when saving a file. Some times, the error message was shown without Studio crashing.

Error dialog box showing 'Access to the path C:Users47481OneDriveDocumentsStudio 2024AutoSave244ff3dc-3078-4732-b8bd-270a452dbcb9' is denied.

I installed Studio 2024 this week, and now the same thing is happening there.

My first question is, why is OneDrive involved at all? I don't use it for any work related files. I keep all my projects on DropBox, where, if I encounter "file busy", I just pause the syncing. I would have thought autosave would use the project folder containing the sdlxliff file as the destination folder.

I have searched, but not found a way to change the destination folder for autosave, in an attempt to get rid of this pesky problem.

I see that this problem has been raised on this forum, but the replies have not been of help. I want to get OneDrive out of the loop.

  •   …. indeed… although you don’t have to take the advice if you know better ;-)

We’ll take a look and see why it suggested that though. Can’t see anything obvious in the posts unless it’s the references to the shared drives where we do have connectors.

  • Hi Paul,

When installing Trados Studio, it seems part of the installation process is to create a folder on a OneDrive. I have two, and was not asked which one during installation, or offered an alternative. The contents of the folder is this.

Screenshot of a OneDrive folder named 'Studio 2024' with subfolders for AutoSave, AutoSuggest Dictionaries, Project Templates, Projects, and an XML file named 'Plugin.Bookmarks.xml'.

I save my AutoSuggest dictionaries, project templates and projects elsewhere, and these folders are empty, except the the templates folder, which contains sample templates.

The Autosave folder does contain sub-folders, which all seem to have been automatically generated by Studio:

Screenshot of the 'AutoSave' subfolder within 'Studio 2024' on OneDrive, showing multiple folders with alphanumeric names, each indicating a different date and time modified.

These seem to be the ones to which "access is denied". All the folders are empty. I suppose the temp files are deleted when there is no longer any need for them.

I checked out what Help had to say about file location for Autosave, and found this:

Screenshot of a help document titled 'Checking AutoSaved file location' explaining the AutoSave feature in Trados Studio and how to check and change the AutoSave file location.

There are no AutoSave folder in any of the folders (which I call "Proejct") where I save my project data.

With Studio 2024 (Studio 18), I get the error message with "access denied" each time I save a file (I get no message when the software autosaves), and some times Studio just quits and has to be restarted. That means wasted time, and I would dearly like to know how I get rid of this pesky problem.

I thought perhaps installing the most recent version would do the trick, but the installation was stopped by the anti-virus software (AVG) because it determined that the downloaded file contained a virus. "” blocked TradosStudio2024_18.01.2259.exe … because it was infected with IDP.Generic.”
