Basically, I would like to have the option of looking at the MT suggested translation for a given segment, in the Translation Results window, while still having the target segment blank for me to type in. And yes, I know I can always just clear the target segment, but is there a configuration where studio doesn't fill the target segment to begin with?

Sorry, but this doesn't address my issue. It's my understanding that adjusting priority only means that Studio will look first for matches in the TM and secondly for the NMT, but after obtaining the NMT it will still autofill all the target segments. What I want is to get the NMT, but not autofill the target segments.
From File - Options - Editor - Automation you can disable the option Apply automated translation when no TM match has been found. This will show the suggestion from NMT in the Translation Results window without autofilling the target segment. However, you will need to copy and paste the respective translation in order to insert it into the target segment.
