Issue for saving same source language to target language

I am trying to check sentence similarity using Trados. My goal is to compare a Korean sentence with another Korean sentence stored in the translation memory to identify differences and similarities. However, I encountered an issue where Trados does not allow the source and target languages to be the same in the translation memory, preventing me from registering the data. How can I achieve this task? It does not necessarily have to be done using a translation memory. plz help.

Screenshot of Trados Studio interface with a dialog box showing an error message. The source and target languages are both set to Korean, with a highlighted error stating that the source and target languages cannot be the same.

"Question improvement suggestion": Please provide the version of Trados Studio you are using and any error messages you may have encountered. Also, it would be helpful to know if you have tried any troubleshooting steps already.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

Trados Studio is designed for translation and therefore it requires different source and target languages. However, you can use a workaround to achieve your goal. Here are the steps:

Step 1: Create a new Translation Memory (TM).

Step 2: Set the source language as Korean.

Step 3: For the target language, select a different variant of Korean. For example, if your source language is Korean (Korea), you can set the target language as Korean (North Korea).

This way, Trados Studio will allow you to save the same sentence in both the source and target fields of the TM. You can then use the TM lookup feature to compare sentences.

Please note that this is a workaround and not the intended use of Trados Studio. The software is primarily designed for translation between different languages, not for comparing sentences within the same language.
