File > Settings > Users makes Trados Studio 2022 freeze

I have Trados Studio 2022 SR2 latest build. When trying to create a project package for the first time, it asked me to add a user, I added it without adding an email address (I only added a name), and then Trados started to crash and it didn't let me select any user. Now:

When I go to Create project package and try to select a user, Trados freezes.

When I go to File > Settings > Users, Trados freezes.

I repaired the Trados installation but that didn't work.

I tried to modify Trados settings file "UserSettings.xml", but I can't find how to delete the user in that file. What is the exact settings file that I need to edit? What is the file name and how I can delete the user?

    Hello,

It seems like you're experiencing an issue with Trados Studio 2022 SR2 freezing when trying to add a user or create a project package. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:

Step 1: Close Trados Studio if it's currently open.

Step 2: Navigate to the following directory: C:\Users\Your_user\AppData\Local\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio1n, where 1n corresponds to the number of your Studio version. For example, 17 would be for Studio 2022.

Step 3: Look for the file named "UserSettings.xml". This is the file where user information is stored.

Step 4: Open this file with a text editor (like Notepad).

Step 5: Look for the user entry that you want to delete. It should be in a format similar to this: <User Name="username" Email="email" />.

Step 6: Delete the entire line that contains the user entry you want to remove.

Step 7: Save and close the file.

Step 8: Open Trados Studio and check if the issue persists.

Please note that editing the UserSettings.xml file should be done with caution, as incorrect changes can cause further issues with the software. If you're not comfortable with this, I would recommend reaching out to a technical expert for assistance.

  • I can't find any user on UserSettings.xml. Trados keeps freezing when going to File > Settings > Users and I can't create a project package.

Can anyone help here? Any other ideas?

    Hello,

I understand that you're still experiencing issues with Trados Studio 2022 SR2 freezing when trying to add a user or create a project package, and you're unable to find any user in the UserSettings.xml file.

Here are some additional steps you can try:

Step 1: Close Trados Studio if it's currently open.

Step 2: Navigate to the following directory: C:\Users\Your_user\AppData\Local\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio1n, where 1n corresponds to the number of your Studio version. For example, 17 would be for Studio 2022.

Step 3: Look for the file named "BaseSettings.xml". This file contains the base settings for Trados Studio.

Step 4: Rename this file to something like "BaseSettings_old.xml". This will force Trados Studio to create a new BaseSettings.xml file when it's next launched.

Step 5: Launch Trados Studio and check if the issue persists.

Please note that renaming the BaseSettings.xml file will reset all your Trados Studio settings to their defaults. If you have any custom settings, you may want to note them down before performing this step.

If the issue still persists, it might be a deeper issue that requires further investigation. In this case, I would recommend reaching out to a technical expert for assistance.
