Bug in SDL Trados 2024

When I start a new translation and I start Trados, everythings runs smoothly, untill I add a new term. The terminology window opens the first time in flags layout. When I edit an added term in that layout and save the term, Trados crashes and disappears from the screen. I have to restart the programm.
When I switch in Termbase Viewer first to Default layout, I don't have this problem.

Does anybody else experience the same phenomenon?

Is it possible to resolve this hickup in a next update?

Kind regards

    To add to what   said:

Please reorganise your termbase. Please make default layout default setting there. Make sure, the names of the languages in the TB do match the names of the languages in your project. For example, if in the TB you have Deutsch, but in Trados you have German, it may cause problems.

I reorganised all the termbases i use.

My French termbase I use in Dutch-French projects has the Default layout. I reorganized the termbase too.
For Dutch - French: the language names for the termbase and project settings (SDL Trados) are the same: Dutch (Belgium) - French (France)

    The Dutch - Portuguese project:

One of the 3 Portuguese-Dutch termbases had 'Flags layout' as default setting, so I changed this to 'Default layout' and reorganized the 3 termbases.

Language names in project settings SDL Trados: Dutch (Belgium) - Portuguese (Portugal)
    Language names in the termbases:
    1. JurPorNed_Tris: Dutch (Belgium), English, French (France), Portuguese (Portugal)
    2. PortNedTermen: Dutch (Belgium), English (United States), Portuguese (Portugal)
    3. procuração: Dutch, Portuguese. I created a new termbase 'procuração_new' with Dutch (Belgium) - Portuguese (Portugal) and reorganized the termbase.
Now all the language field names are the same for termbases and project settings.

I tried to add terms for French and Portuguese.

For French, the Termbase Viewer started in 'Flags layout' when I tried to add a new term, but after saving the term and changing the layout to Default layout, the program did not crash.
For a Dutch to Portuguese project: the same. The viewer starts in Flags layout, I can add and save the term and change the layout to the Default layout without causing a crash of the program.

So that's fine. I will keep an eye on thisand let you know if and when there is a crash.

Is it normal that SDL Trados opens in Flags layout after starting up the program?

Thanks a lot for your tips.

Trados Studio usually recognizes the default layout being set as default in the termbase. However, sometimes the program is somehow stubborn. In such case the solution is to remove the termbase(s) from the project, close Trados Studio, restart the PC and add the termbases again. Usually that helps.

  • I did everything you suggested, it didn't work.

Worse: when I wanted to add/edit the first term and I clicked on 'Cancel editing', Trados Studio crashed completly. When I tried it a second time, TS did not crash. Strange.
