What is the best way to send out a file for editing and import it back in on Trados Freelance 2024?

I do not believe I can make project packages, and a bilingual Word file will not let my editor autopropagate changes. Can I export an sdlxliff instead + import it back?

 Please detail what file type you receive from your customer and what is the task that you want to achieve?

 The first question would be what software will be used by the person you send the file to? If it's Trados Studio, and preferably the ame version (although this may not be problem) you can simply send the SDLXLIFF file from the target language folder of your projects. They translate then you replace your file with their tranlsated version when you get it back, open the project and Bob's your Uncle... all good. Make sure you back up your original first through in case you need to do some shenanigans to get the translations out for some reason. But generally, the process is simple. 
 Another option might be to use the studioViews plugin from the AppStore ( https://appstore.rws.com/Plugin/12 ) which will allow you to split the files you have, or merge them, and create new SDLXLIFF files that you can send. Once they are translated and returned you can import them back into Trados Studio using studioViews to update your project. So you don't mess around with your original project files with this method and you have some audits of the process. 
 If it's not going to a Trados Studio user, but they do use a CAT tool then I recommend you use the XLIFF Manager plugin from the appstore ( https://appstore.rws.com/Plugin/67 ) as this will allow you to convert the files to a simple XLIFF format that any CAT worth its salt can work with. When done they return the XLIFF to you, and you import it back in to update your project using the XLIFF Manager. Also provides you with a nice audit trail for managing the work.
