Can I leave out a segment that needs no translation?

Hello. I am a beginner currently working on a project using the Trados Studio 2015 freelance edition.

Could anyone please teach me what I should do with segments that need no translation?

They are not translatable because English and Japanese languages are differently structured.

For example, if there are "the", "a", "there is/are" or such in one segment and the rest of a sentence follows in the next segment,

because these words are untranslatable in Japanese, should I skip the segment without any word?

Or is there any other way to do it better?

Thanks for reading and if you have an idea to share with me, that would be wonderful.

  • You can leave this segments untranslated. However insert a blank there, so that the source text will not appear in the target language.
To make sure they will not get confirmed, set the segment status (right click) to "Sign-off rejected" and lock the segment (CTRL+L).
If these segments are orphaned due to bad source segmentation, you might try to copy & paste the source text into one segment (edit source ALT+F2). In such case it is NECESSARY to enter blanks in the segments, which will not be translated and then lock them the way described above.
