Table of content of a Word document was not imported in Trados Studio

How do I prepare a Word translation project to include the table of content? I created a local project of a single Word docx document and the TOC was not imported. I want to know what I missed, here (project parameters? Options?) - I know it's probably a basic knowledge question, but thank you for taking the time to lead me to this setting.

"Question improvement suggestion": Please provide more details about the steps you took when creating the project and importing the Word document. Also, let us know if you received any error messages during the process.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

It seems like you're having trouble importing the Table of Contents (TOC) from a Word document into Trados Studio. Here are some steps you can follow to ensure the TOC is included:

Step 1: Open your Word document and ensure that the TOC is linked correctly. The TOC should be generated automatically based on the headings in your document.

Step 2: When you're ready to import the document into Trados Studio, make sure to select the 'Preserve source formatting' option during the import process. This should help maintain the formatting of the TOC.

Step 3: After translating, generate the target translation. The TOC should be included in the translated document.

Step 4: If the TOC is not appearing correctly in the translated document, you may need to update it manually in Word. To do this, right-click on the TOC and select 'Update Field'. Then, choose 'Update entire table' and click 'OK'.

Please note that these steps are based on Trados Studio 2021, as the version you mentioned (Trados Studio 2024) does not exist yet. If you're using a different version of Trados Studio, the steps may vary slightly.

I hope this answer addressed your question. If not, please reject the answer, add the question improvement suggestion information, and click the RWS Community AI checkbox on the right to try again.

You do not miss anything. The TOC is created automatically out of the headings in your Word document. Translate it, open in Word, click somewhere in the TOC and press F9. That's all.
