Converting SDLXLIFF to XLIFF

We are working on XLIFF files exported from Workiva (a CMS used for financial reports) in Trados Team.

We needed to tweak the files because there was too much non-translatable content in them - as a consequence, we're currently unable to generate a target translated XLIFF file (presumably because the connection to the original file was lost).

Would XLIFF Manager be able to do that?

MTIA and kind regards,

Ralf

"Question improvement suggestion": Please provide more details about the changes you made to the XLIFF files and the error message you receive when trying to generate a target translated XLIFF file. Also, specify the version of Trados Team you are using.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello Ralf,

Based on your query, it seems you have modified the XLIFF files and are now unable to generate a target translated XLIFF file. This could be due to the changes made to the non-translatable content.

The XLIFF Manager plugin for Trados Studio can indeed help you manage and convert SDLXLIFF files to XLIFF format. Here's how you can use it:

Step 1: Open Trados Studio and go to the "Add-Ins" tab.

Step 2: Click on "RWS AppStore" and search for "XLIFF Manager".

Step 3: Download and install the XLIFF Manager plugin.

Step 4: Once installed, you can access the XLIFF Manager from the "Add-Ins" tab.

Step 5: Load your SDLXLIFF file into the XLIFF Manager.

Step 6: Use the options provided to convert the SDLXLIFF file to XLIFF format.

Please note that any changes made to the XLIFF files outside of Trados Studio may affect the ability to generate a target translated XLIFF file. It's recommended to make changes within Trados Studio to maintain the integrity of the files.

I hope this answer addressed your question. If not, please reject the answer, add the question improvement suggestion information, and click the RWS Community AI checkbox on the right to try again.

It could create an XLIFF in one of the two formats it supports, but not in the format exported from Workiva.  Maybe your best bet would be to create a new project with the original Workiva XLIFF, pre-translate that from your TM (or Perfect Match) and then save the target.  So you have an unedited file to work off.

  • Many thanks, Paul!
That's what we did in the end - I was just wondering whether XLIFF Manager had some Harry-Potter-style trick up its sleeve... ;)
