Remove project from list and start over

Client sends me a project.

Shortly after I open it up in Trados, they send me a new version of the project, and with the same name.

So, I delete the original project from the project list, and the files for that project from my HD.

I then try to open the new project. Trados tells me that it has already been opened in "Trados and added to the project list" (even though, as noted, it's no longer showing on the project list).

So, short of asking the client to reprocess the project, how can I use the second version?

Thanks in advance.

"Question improvement suggestion": Please provide the exact version of Trados Studio you are using and any error messages you might be receiving. Also, it would be helpful to know if you have tried any troubleshooting steps already.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

It seems like Trados Studio is still recognizing the old project even though you have deleted it. This could be due to some residual files or settings. Here are the steps you can try:

Step 1: Make sure you have closed Trados Studio.

Step 2: Navigate to the Projects folder in your Trados Studio installation directory (usually located in Documents > Studio 20XX > Projects).

Step 3: Look for any residual files related to the old project and delete them.

Step 4: Restart Trados Studio and try to open the new project again.

If the issue persists, you might want to try resetting your Trados Studio settings to default. Please remember to back up your settings before doing this as it will erase your personalized settings.

    Step 1: Close Trados Studio.

Step 2: Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box.

Step 3: Type in "%appdata%" (without quotes) and press Enter.

Step 4: Navigate to SDL > SDL Trados Studio > 'Studio Version' > UserSettings.xml.

Step 5: Rename the UserSettings.xml file to something like UserSettings_old.xml.

Step 6: Restart Trados Studio. It will create a new UserSettings.xml file with default settings.

Please try these steps and let us know if they help.

  • Hi

How did you receive the project? In the form of a project package (SDLPPX)? If yes, then you can simply import the new project into another project folder.

  • Hi
Did you close and reopen Studio after deleting the first and before opening the second project?

Regarding deletion, you have to delete the entire project folder from your hard drive, not only the files the project folder contains.

    Best regards

    Seraina
