Issue with Termbase usage in in SDL Studio2014

I can add term and it is saved in MultiTerm successfully, but when seeing the same term again later, it is not accounted for as match.

i.e. no red line shown across the term in Editor window, and term also not shown in Term Recognition window for that particular TU.

But when cross-checking this term in MultiTerm standalone, it is there alright.

This is observed in several terms, and the same terms repeatedly, across many termbase files. And in several cases, in a single TU, the Term Recognition window only displays most, but not all, of the present terms in Termbase, and this is an ongoing error seen on many installations of SDL in my office.

  • Our working environment is: Termbase file sdltb created and saved to a shared network folder, and users linking to this database to add/edit terms. On some occasions more than one user may link to the same sdltb file simultaneously. Also what is observed is, entries that have been added and saved the day before seem to have 'disappeared' from the database when we resume work today, from checking the total entries count in MultiTerm, which is very strange.
  • Hi Apichat,

The problems you are encountering might be the result of working with a shared filebased termbase. These databases are not designed to be used by more than one user and irrespective of the potential issues caused by file locking the index files might not correctly reflect the content of the termbase as you work with it.

If you want to share a single termbase across multiple users the effective way to do this is use a server based termbase controlled through SDL GroupShare.

  • Thank you very much Paul for your reply!

We are initially aware of the potential issue of multiple user session connecting to the same sdltb on share network, and we have also experienced some errors with term saving.

What we are keen to find out further is,
    1. Why do saved terms disappear overnight, since they were saved successfully the day before.
    2. Why do Term Recognition fails to recognize and display all the matching terms in Termbase respective to the active TU? It does show many, but still not all, and this applies to the same missing terms that fail to show up repeatedly across many TUs, despite the fact that they are already saved to sdltb.

This one I have no idea... I think it's hard to comment on this because once it's in the termbase that's it.  I don't see a mechanism for losing them.  Perhaps it's related to the way you are sharing?  But I don't really know... maybe someone else will have a good answer for this.

This one I know about and it's a problem, along with many others, that have been resolved with MultiTerm 2015.

  • Thanks Paul!
For 1. we will relocate the sdltb to our local drives and continue work from there to see if the problem still persists, this way we can pinpoint whether it is relating to network sharing. Please let us know if you find out more about this.
For 2. Does this mean if we upgrade our current MultiTerm to 2015 version, and continue using with SDLStudio 2014, this will be okay? And will this MultiTerm upgrade require additional cost? Or do we actually need to upgrade to Studio 2015 first to ensure compatibility with MultiTerm 2015?

My apology for the numerous questions :)
