Urgent help needed - Big project - Error message "Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application (...) Object name: Infragistics" - Trados Studio 2022

Hi all,

I will try to keep it as short as possible.

I have only four more days to deliver an extended 35,000-words extended MTPE assignment that started three days ago.

As has become increasingly common of late, my deadline (and mental health, for that matter) is being jeopardised by popping error messages in Trados Studio.

PROBLEM OVERVIEW

· Three days ago, I received an .sprx send package from my customer for a large project that includes a cloud-based TM (for which I also received the log-in and password)

· I opened the send package in Studio, opened the project in the list, and double-clicked to open the largest file of the project in Editor View (which worked fine)

· Upon moving to another segment than the first one, I received the infamous error message 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object' (1)

· I ignored this message and went on, but upon confirming the first segment, I received a second Error message:

'Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.

Cannot access a disposed object. Object name: Infragistisc.Win.UltraWinStatusBar.' (2)

When I click the 'Details' button in the latter error message, a whole bunch of MS DOS-like system analysis information (that I do not understand) becomes available.

· One post on the RWS forum by suggested that 'restoring the original editor view' in Studio might do the trick, which I tried

· This seemed to have worked: I kept receiving the 'Object reference not set' message (1) every time I opened the project, but did not receive the 'Unhandled exception' message again (2).

This way, all worked well for two full days.

Today, after clikcing away the usual 'Object reference not set' message (1), I received the 'Unhandled exception' message (2) once again, but this time the 'Restore editor view' trick is not working.

Upon confirming the exception message, Trados Studio even shuts down alltogether.

HERE IS WHAT I HAVE TRIED SO FAR:

· Deactivate the DeepL TM in the project's language resources in Studio + Restore Editor view + restart Studio >> Result: Error messages (1) + (2), Trados shuts down upon confirming the first segment

· Update Studio: download and install newest version + Reboot laptop + Restart Studio >> Result: Error messages (1) + (2), Trados shuts down upon confirming the first segment

· Control panel: repair Studio + Reboot laptop + Restart Studio >> Result: Studio cannot open (program icon pops up for three seconds and disappears again)

· Control panel: uninstall Studio + Download newest version from RWS account + Reinstall Studio + Reboot laptop >> Result: Error messages (1) + (2), Trados shuts down upon confirming the first segment

I desperately need a solution now, because my time is running out.

"Question improvement suggestion": The question is quite detailed and provides a lot of information about the problem, the steps taken to resolve it, and the system specifications. However, it would be helpful to know if there were any recent changes to the system or software before the issue started occurring.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing with Trados Studio 2022. Based on the error messages you're receiving and the steps you've already taken to resolve the issue, it seems like there might be a problem with the Translation Memories (TMs) or Termbases in your project.

    Here's what I suggest:

Step 1: Close Trados Studio if it's currently open.

Step 2: Open Trados Studio and navigate to your project settings.

Step 3: Remove all Translation Memories and Termbases from your Project Settings.

Step 4: Save the changes and close the project settings.

Step 5: Try to open your project and see if the error messages still occur.

If the error messages do not occur anymore, you can try adding the Translation Memories and Termbases back to your project:

Step 6: Go back to your project settings.

Step 7: Add the Translation Memories and Termbases back to your project.

Step 8: Save the changes and close the project settings.

Step 9: Try to open your project and see if the error messages still occur.

If the error messages still occur after adding the Translation Memories and Termbases back, there might be a problem with one or more of these resources. In this case, you might need to check each resource individually to see if you can identify the problem.

I hope this answer addressed your question. If not, please reject the answer, add the question improvement suggestion information, and click the RWS Community AI checkbox on the right to try again.

  • · With all TM's and TB's deactivated: no error messages appear.
    · With only TM's activated: no error messages appear
    · With only TB's activated: Error messages (1) + (2), Trados shuts down upon confirming the first segment

I think this strongly suggests that something is wrong with the termbases; I will contact the customer accordingly.

    You also noted this:

    Installed Studio version: TradosStudio2022SR2_17.2.12.19268

But not what version of MultiTerm you have installed?  You should have this:

    MultiTerm 2022 SR2 - 17.2.5.2838

Perhaps make sure you have this version installed.  Also we do have this KB article that suggests your findings could be correct:

  • Hi Paul,

Thank you for your your answer.

I tried your suggestion and updated Multiterm to the latest version, but without success.

As long as I disable the customer's termbases, all works fine (even with the provided translation memories enabled).

As soon as I confirm a segment with the termbases enabled, I receive the exception error message and Studio shuts down.
