Failed to save target content: Couldn't show file save dialog -12290

Hello,

I've recently upgraded from Trados Studio 2021 to Studio 2024 -18.0.2.3255 and translated a pdf document for the first time in Studio 2024. I am unable to save the translated document, either by using 'Save Target As' (I get the error message "failed to save target content: Couldn't show file save dialog -12290"), or by using the Batch tasks 'Generate target translations' or 'Finalize'. Both of the batch tasks options appear to successfully create a Word file, but the Word document just opens as a greyed out page with all the usual Word headings and ribbon but no content.

As a test, I've created a new project in Studio 2024 using a pdf file I had previously translated with no issues in Studio 2021, populated the target segments from the TM and attempted to save the translated document, but I get the same problem and error message.

The File Preview in Word function works fine in 2024.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Judith

"Question improvement suggestion": Please provide more information about the operating system you are using, any recent changes to your system or Trados Studio, and the type of file you are trying to save. Also, it would be helpful to know if you have tried running Trados Studio as an administrator or checked the folder's security settings.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello Judith,

It seems like you're experiencing an issue with saving your translated document in Trados Studio 2024. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this issue:

Step 1: Confirm that all segments in your document are confirmed. Only confirmed segments will be included in the translated document.

Step 2: Preview the target document in Trados Studio to check if the translation appears correctly. If it does, the issue might be with the file generation process.

Step 3: If you're working on a cloud project, use the Batch Tasks > Generate Target Files function to save the target files.

Step 4: Try running Trados Studio as an administrator. This can sometimes resolve issues related to file access and permissions.

Step 5: Check the folder's security settings where you're trying to save the file. Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to access the path.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, please provide additional details such as the exact steps you are following, the type of file you are trying to save, any recent changes to your system or Trados Studio, and the operating system you are using.
