Unable to use/add terms; "an item with the same key has already been added" appears

Hi,

I hope this message finds you well. I am trying to use my existing termbase after installing my Trados 2019 on a new PC, but to no avail. I end up with the following message: an item with the same key has already been added. How should I fix this issue?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Hsar

"Question improvement suggestion": Please provide more information about the steps you took before encountering the issue, the version of Trados Studio you are using, and any recent changes you made to your system. Also, let us know if you have tried any troubleshooting steps.

    Hello Hsar,

It seems like you're encountering an issue with your termbase in Trados Studio 2019. This error message usually appears when there's a duplicate entry in your termbase. Here are a few steps you can take to resolve this issue:

Step 1: Update your MultiTerm to the latest version. This issue was fixed in MultiTerm 2017 CU06. You can update your software to the latest version within the application.

Step 2: If updating doesn't solve the issue, you might need to recreate your termbase. You can create a new termbase from a termbase definition (XDT) and termbase data (XML) file in MultiTerm. Please note that the corrupted entries will be discarded in this process.

Step 3: To prevent this issue from occurring in the future, set the termbase layout to Default layout in Home > Display before merging entries during entry creation. Alternatively, do not merge entries during creation, but instead create the new entry first and merge them afterwards.
