Failed to save target content. Could not find file Users\...\appdata\local\Temp\SDLTempFileManager\word\...\settings.xml

hello

I processed a large text from Russian to French.
When trying to save the result I hit into this error:
Failed to save target content. Could not find file c:\Users\...Appdata\local\Temp\SDLTempFileManager\word\...\settings.xml .

On inspection: the dir SDLTempManager only contains a file AutodeletLocked1.lock, with a recent timestamp.

This specific error is not addressed in the KB or the forums.

What is it and what should be done?

JFError dialog box from Trados Studio stating 'Failed to save target content. Could not find file C:UsersusernameAppDataLocalTempSDLTempFileManagerwordfilesettings.xml'. Buttons for Knowledge Base and Community are visible.

"Question improvement suggestion": Please provide the version of Trados Studio you are using and any recent changes to your system or software. Also, let us know if you have already tried any troubleshooting steps.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello JF,

The error message you're encountering usually occurs when Trados Studio can't find the temporary files it needs. This can be due to several reasons, such as antivirus software, a third-party cleaning tool, or even Windows itself if there's not enough space on your C:\ drive.

Here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue:

Step 1: Create a new folder named 'SDLTemp File Regen' in your temporary folder. You can access this by typing %temp% in Windows File Explorer.

Step 2: Add Trados Studio as an exception in your antivirus software. Make sure to include the path C:\Users\%username%\App Data\Local\Temp\SDLTemp File Regen (replace %username% with your actual username).

Step 3: Check the size of your Temp folder and your C:\ drive. If necessary, free up some space.

Step 4: In Trados Studio, go to File > Options > File Types > SDL XLIFF > General and increase the maximum embedded file size to 100MB. This will apply to all new projects.

Step 5: Try to save and close the SDLXLIFF file, rather than leaving it open in the Editor view with Trados idle.

Please note that these steps are based on the information you've provided and may not fully resolve your issue if there are other factors at play.

I hope this answer addressed your question. If not, please reject the answer, add the question improvement suggestion information, and click the RWS Community AI checkbox on the right to try again.

  • Solution NOK.

This may have to do with the RTF format.
I converted the input from RTF to DOCX and it worked.

But the error message is highly uninformative!
