What is Alt+Add?

In the Editor, I have always used the keys Ctrl+Enter to confirm a segment and pass to the next untranslated/fuzzy segment.

Today, suddenly this combination does not work anymore and I have to press Ctrl+alt+Enter - which is very uncomfortable, or ... Alt+Add?

Dropdown menu in Trados Studio showing options for confirming and moving to segments, with shortcuts like Alt+Add, Ctrl+Alt+Enter, and Ctrl+Alt+B displayed.

but which is the "Add" key? First time I hear of it... can someone help?

thanks

  • Hi Valerie

I don't know how this happened to you, but what has happened is somehow the system has loaded the "Trados" settings, rather than the "Default" ones.  If you do this manually, you get the chance to save your profile settings, so hopefully you have a file you can restore to put the old ones back. Anyway - what you need to do is as follows:

    1. Go to File/Setup/Manage User Profiles
    2. Select Change User Profile, then click on Next
    3. Don't bother - in this case - backing up your settings, so just select "Do not back up ...", then click Next
    4. On the next screen, it will probably show Trados in the Profile box - select the drop down icon, and instead, select Default (UNLESS you've previously saved your settings in which case browse for and restore them)
    5. Click on Finish
    6. This will reset all of your settings to the usual - including the "Ctrl+Enter for confirm and move to next unconfirmed segment" that you want - but you will now have to go and reset things like the default dictionary (unless you wan to use Hunspell, of course!), your default languages, server settings and your sign on to your cloud account.

I would suggest that once you have done this, and got everything set the way you like it, you go back to step one of the list above, and select the "Export user settings" option - this will mean that should this happen to you again you can easily restore all of your customised settings as noted in point 4.

I hope that makes sense - let me know if you have any issues.

    Rob

  • Great  , that worked perfectly! In fact, I had selected Trados when I reactivated my licence on this PC because I thought that was better (don't know why...), but now the command works as before. THANK YOU!!! :-)))
