Project templates vs project settings vs file options in Trados Studio 2022

Hello everyone,

I've just started working at a company where the project managers use 3 different project templates for various clients. I am expected to standardize the way the linguists are working, and therefore would like to have them set up their File Options all in the same way. I know that the project settings override the file options, but what about the project templates? Do they override the file options AND the project settings too?

I would love for everyone to install the Number Verifier plugin, which is not part of the project templates at the moment. So my question are as follows:

1) If I ask the linguists to set up the Number Verifier (and other options) in the file options, will these settings still be taken into account in they are using project templates that don't include the Number Verifier?

2) If they are not (as I suspect) taken into account because of the project templates that are used, can they be activated through the project settings?

3) If the Number Verifier (and other) options are overridden by the use of project templates, can the Number Verifier plugin be added to project templates?

Thanks a lot in advance!

"Question improvement suggestion": Your question is quite clear, but it would be helpful if you could specify whether you have administrative rights to change the project templates or if you are limited to instructing the linguists on how to set up their individual settings.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

In Trados Studio, the hierarchy of settings is as follows: File Options -> Project Settings -> Project Templates. This means that Project Templates will override both Project Settings and File Options.

    To answer your questions:

    1) If you ask the linguists to set up the Number Verifier in the File Options, these settings will be overridden if they are using Project Templates that don't include the Number Verifier.

    2) If the Project Templates used do not include the Number Verifier, these settings cannot be activated through the Project Settings. The Project Settings are overridden by the Project Templates.

    3) Yes, the Number Verifier plugin can be added to Project Templates. This would be the most effective way to ensure that all linguists are using the same settings. You can do this by going to the Project Templates settings, selecting the desired template, and adding the Number Verifier plugin to the template.

Please note that these changes to the Project Templates will need to be done by someone with the appropriate administrative rights.
