"Key already exists. Parameter name: Key" error - Trados Studio 2022

Hi,

I see that this question has been asked before, but I haven’t found a solution that works for me. In my case, the error appears when I open a document I’ve uploaded in a slightly different way. Previously, I mostly worked with PDFs, which I converted to Word and cleaned up by removing formatting and other elements.

Recently, my company introduced new software (Storyblok) that we use to write and store website content. It provides an option to download texts in XML. This time, I downloaded the document as XML and imported it into Trados without cleaning the formatting (the document contains Markdown tables).

I’m not sure this is the cause of the error, but it’s the main thing I’ve done differently in the last few weeks. I had four plugins installed, but I’ve deactivated them (LanguageTool, PDF Filter x2, Word 2007-2019 Filter UI). I also participated in a Trados workshop recently and enabled Web Lookup and other functions while following along with the instructor.

As for the error, when I open the document imported from Storyblok, I get the error message. The document opens, and I can work on it. Some functions are greyed out and don’t work, but overall I can translate, verify segments, perform searches, and add terms to the glossary. I’d like to see how the tool handles importing the translated content back, but I’m unsure how to proceed, as I don’t know what effect ignoring the error message might have.

Could you please advise?

Thanks,
Marta

    Hello Marta,

Thank you for reaching out with your question regarding the "Key already exists. Parameter name: Key" error in Trados Studio 2022. It sounds like you've encountered a complex issue, especially with the recent changes in your workflow. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the error:

**Step 1:** **Check for Duplicate Plugins**

    - Since you mentioned deactivating plugins, ensure that there are no duplicate instances of any plugins installed. Go to the Add-Ins tab > Plug-Ins tab and check for duplicates. If you find any, uninstall one of the instances.

**Step 2:** **Review the XML Document**

    - Since the error appeared after importing an XML document, check the XML file for any formatting issues or invalid characters. You can open the XML file in a text editor and look for any anomalies that might cause the error.

**Step 3:** **Clean Up the Document**

    - Consider using the tw4win Clean tool to remove any unwanted styles or formatting from the XML document. This can help ensure that the document is in a clean state for translation.

**Step 4:** **Test with a Different File Type**

    - If possible, try importing a different file type (like a cleaned-up Word document) to see if the error persists. This can help determine if the issue is specific to the XML format.

    **Step 5:** **Check Project Settings**

    - Review your project settings to ensure that the correct file type is selected for the document you are working on. Sometimes, mismatched file types can lead to errors.

**Step 6:** **Ignore the Error Temporarily**

    - If the document opens and you can work on it, you might choose to proceed with your translation while keeping an eye on any potential issues that arise from ignoring the error. However, be cautious about how this might affect the final output when exporting the translated content.

If the issue continues after trying these steps, please consider providing additional details such as the exact error message, any relevant screenshots, or logs that could help in diagnosing the problem further.
