How to set target segment maximum length equal to source segment length?

Hi all

I'm translating a software with strings where the target maximum length has to be equal or less to the length of the source segment.
The package was sent by the customer but I'd like to define this criteria other wise I've to check all lengths one by one and there are 83.000 segments!!

Thanks for your help!!!!

Question improvement suggestion: Provide specific details about the software version you are using and any previous attempts to set the target segment length.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello!

To set the target segment maximum length equal to the source segment length in Trados Studio, you can follow these steps:

**Step 1:** Go to your Project Settings.

**Step 2:** Navigate to the Verification section and enable the QA Checker by checking the 'Check segment length' option.

**Step 3:** Set the 'Maximum segment length' in the QA Checker settings to match the length of the source segments. This will help ensure that any target segments exceeding this length are flagged.

**Step 4:** If you are working with a Multilingual Excel file, make sure to run the 'Import Multilingual Translations (Excel)' batch task to bring in additional context necessary for length checks.

**Step 5:** After setting this up, run the verification (F8) to check all target segments against the defined length criteria.

This approach will help you manage the segment lengths without having to check each one manually. If you encounter any issues, consider resetting your Trados Studio settings to default or checking for updates within the application.

Not that complicated at all. Go to your Project settings (NOT File -> Options!) and use this:

Trados Studio Project Settings window showing Segments Verification options under QA Checker 3.0, with settings for forgotten translations, segment length, and forbidden characters.

This is all you need. You can change the severity of the message from "Note" to "Warning" or "Error" according to your preference.
