Insert tags automatically does not work

Hello,

Since I bought Trados 2024, the command Insert tags automatically from source (or something similar, my UI language is not English) does not work. I tried many solutions and workarounds but they all fail.

Can someone help me please?

Thank you in advance!

Question improvement suggestion: Provide specific details about the steps you've already taken to troubleshoot the issue, including any error messages received or settings checked.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello Marcello L,

It sounds like you're experiencing some challenges with the "Insert tags automatically" feature in Trados 2024. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue:

**Step 1:** Check your settings. Go to **File -> Options -> File Types -> HTML5 -> Parser** and ensure that the tags you need are correctly configured. Look for the tag name and edit the rule to change the segmentation hint from "May Exclude" to "Include with text."

**Step 2:** When you want to insert a tag, place your cursor at the desired location in the Editor window and press **Ctrl + , (comma)**. This should display a drop-down list of available tags. If the tags are not appearing, ensure that the tags are not applied to the entire sentence, as this may cause them to be hidden.

**Step 3:** If you are still having issues, try using the **Ctrl + Alt + Insert** shortcut or select the function from the Home or Advanced menu to insert tags that are present in the source text but not manually inserted in the target text.

**Step 4:** Verify that your HTML code is valid, especially if you are working with HTML files. Check for any unrecognized characters or issues in the CDATA section of the source file.

**Step 5:** If you encounter any error messages, please note them down as they can provide valuable information for troubleshooting.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, please provide more details about any error messages you receive or specific settings you have checked. This will help in diagnosing the problem more effectively.

  • Quick insert function works fine, what I need is the automatic application of tags, bulk applying. This feature does not work in any way: shortcut, contextual menu, main tool bar

    Hello Marcello L,

It seems you're facing challenges with the bulk application of tags in Trados 2024. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue:

**Step 1:** Verify your settings. Go to **File -> Options -> File Types -> HTML5 -> Parser**. Ensure that the tags you want to apply are correctly configured. Check the segmentation hints for the tags and make sure they are set to "Include with text" instead of "May Exclude."

**Step 2:** When you want to apply tags, ensure that your cursor is positioned correctly in the target segment. You can use the **Ctrl + Alt + Insert** shortcut or select the function from the Home or Advanced menu to insert tags that are present in the source text. If this does not work, try using the **Insert Tag** dialog by placing your cursor in the segment and opening it from the menu.

**Step 3:** If the automatic application of tags is still not functioning, consider using the workaround: highlight the text in the target segment that needs formatting, go to **Tools**, and select **Apply Formatting**. Then click on the corresponding text in the source section to apply the formatting.

**Step 4:** Check for any updates or patches for Trados 2024 that may address this issue, as it has been noted that some functionalities have been improved by the development team.

**Step 5:** If you continue to experience issues, please provide any error messages you encounter or specific settings you have checked. This information will help in diagnosing the problem more effectively.

  • I just saw that may depend on the file format. Being the file JSON, some features are not available, like quicktags. Is that the reason? Any solution or workaround

Question improvement suggestion: Specify the exact features that are not available for JSON files and any error messages you may have encountered when trying to use the automatic tag application.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello Marcello L,

It appears that the limitations you are experiencing with the automatic application of tags in Trados 2024 may indeed be related to the JSON file format. Here are some insights and potential workarounds you can consider:

**Step 1:** Confirm the limitations of the JSON file format. Certain features, such as quick tags and bulk tag application, may not be fully supported in JSON files due to their structure. This can affect how tags are recognized and applied during the translation process.

**Step 2:** Check the parser settings for your JSON file type. Go to **File -> Options -> File Types -> JSON -> Parser** and ensure that the tag rules are correctly configured. You may need to add or modify the tag definitions to ensure they are recognized properly.

**Step 3:** If the automatic application of tags is not functioning as expected, consider using the **Insert Tag** dialog manually. Place your cursor in the target segment, then open the Insert Tag dialog to select and apply the necessary tags.

**Step 4:** As a workaround, you can highlight the text in the target segment that needs formatting, go to **Tools**, and select **Apply Formatting**. This allows you to apply the formatting from the source text manually.

**Step 5:** If you continue to face issues, please provide any specific error messages or additional details about the features that are not working. This information will help in diagnosing the problem more effectively.
