Quick add term shuts down Studio 2024 SR1

Hello,

We have installed Trados Studio 2024 SR1 a couple of days ago, but unfortunately the quick-add term function (Crtl + Shift + F2) does not seem to work properly, as it tends to shut down Studio without any warning and without displaying any error message at all. Can this be addressed in a future update, please?

Best regards,
Katharina

Question improvement suggestion: Provide details on any troubleshooting steps you have already taken to resolve the issue, such as checking for updates or reinstalling the software.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello Katharina,

Thank you for reaching out regarding the issue with the Quick Add Term function in Trados Studio 2024 SR1. It sounds frustrating to experience unexpected shutdowns without any error messages. Here are some steps you can take to potentially resolve this issue:

    **Step 1:** Check for Updates

Ensure that you have the latest updates installed for both Trados Studio and MultiTerm. Updates often include fixes for known issues. You can check for updates within the application.

    **Step 2:** Reset Window Layout

Sometimes, layout issues can cause unexpected behavior. Try resetting the window layout by going to View > Reset Window Layout.

**Step 3:** Install the Rapid Add Term (RAT) Plugin

As a workaround, consider installing the Rapid Add Term (RAT) plugin from the RWS AppStore. Many users have found this plugin to be a successful alternative for adding terms.

    **Step 4:** Repair Installation

If the issue persists, you might want to repair your installation of Trados Studio. You can do this through the Control Panel by finding Trados Studio in the list of installed programs and selecting 'Repair'.

**Step 5:** Check for Corrupted Resources

If the problem continues, check if your translation memories (TMs) or termbases are corrupted. Disable them one by one in Project Settings to see if the crash still occurs. If you identify a corrupted resource, you may need to recreate it.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may be beneficial to wait for a future update that addresses this defect, as it has been logged with Development.

I hope this answer addressed your question. If not, please reject the answer, add the question improvement suggestion information, and click the RWS Community AI checkbox on the right to try again.

If you have RAT (Rapid Add Term) installed, uninstall it and install back again from the app store via Trados Studio. After that please check the shortcut assignment, as there is a conflict between Studio setting and RAT setting, as both are the same.

Otherwise reset Studio by deleting these folders:
    C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Trados\Trados Studio
    C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Trados\Trados Studio\18
    C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio18

Then reinstall all necessary plugins again.

Thanks for your suggestions. I don't have RAT installed, so I tried resetting Trados Studio, but it didn't work. Studio still crashes without warning when I use Crtl + Shift + F2, but it doesn't always do so. There's no logic behind it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

  • Hi Katharina,

Please try to reset Trados to the default settings by renaming the following folders on your machine:

C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Trados - rename the Trados Studio folder

C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Trados - rename the Trados Studio folder

C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents - rename the Studio [version] folder to Studio [version]_old

like in the KB article https://gateway.rws.com/csm?sys_kb_id=792c79773b81e6d093afd79704e45af0&id=kb_article_view&sysparm_rank=12&sysparm_tsqueryId=d0ea902a831e2290396947426daad3d2

Also, try verifying if this is happening only with a certain file or project, or with any file or project.

    Kind regards,

    Hi ,

Thanks for your suggestion. I tried this as well, but to no avail. And it happens in any project.

    Regards,
    Katharina

  • Hi again Katharina,

    I see.

Since this is happening with termbases - are these simple Trados termbases or GroupShare ones?

If these are Trados termbases and they are on a shared space, please save them locally on your computer and then remove and add them again from your computer to the project.

If it's a GroupShare termbase, I suggest you raise a support ticket and the technical team can look into this. The company has an active Support and Maintenance contract and the RWS account administrator should be able to raise a ticket to have this situation investigated.

    Kind regards,

    Anca

Okay, then we'll have to raise a ticket because it happens with Groupshare server termbases. Thanks for your help!
