Problem with settings for Microsoft Word file types

In Studio 2021, I have the following settings for the two available Microsoft Word file types (2007-2019 and 97-2003):

However, when I import a .doc or .docx file for translation in Studio, the OPPOSITE settings are applied, i.e. comments are extracted for translation and comments created in Studio do not show up in the target document. I can only assume that this is because the source document was created in a newer version of Word? Does someone have a solution to this problem?

Question improvement suggestion: Provide specific details about the settings you have configured for both Microsoft Word file types and clarify if you have tried resetting the settings or checking for updates.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

It seems you're experiencing an issue with the settings for Microsoft Word file types in Trados Studio 2021, where the opposite settings are being applied when importing .doc or .docx files. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

    **Step 1:** Check for Updates

Ensure that you are using the latest version of Trados Studio 2021. You can do this by going to Help > Check for Updates within the application.

    **Step 2:** Review Your Settings

Double-check the settings you have configured for both Microsoft Word file types (2007-2019 and 97-2003). Make sure that the options for extracting comments and retaining target comments are set as you intend.

    **Step 3:** Reset Settings

If the issue persists, consider resetting your settings to default. You can do this by navigating to File > Setup > Reset to Default Settings. After resetting, re-enable the 'Retain Studio target comments in target file' option under File > Options > File Types > Microsoft Word 2007-2019 > Common.

    **Step 4:** Adjust Project Settings

If you are working on an existing project, go to Project Settings > File Types > Microsoft Word 2007-2019 > Common and ensure the same options are checked.

**Step 5:** Test with Different File Versions

If the source document was created in a newer version of Word, try saving it in a different format (e.g., .doc instead of .docx) and then import it again.

    **Step 6:** Manual Workaround

If comments are still not appearing as expected, you may need to manually add comments in the target document after translation.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, it may require further investigation or a future update to address the defect.

To which settings do you refer? File -> Options or Setup -> Project templates?

  •   This would only apply to opening single files. Please make sure the desired options are also set in File -> Setup -> Project templates -> your default project template (highlighted in bold). If you are adding files to an existing project, you must change the settings in the project settings.
