Bengali Fonts in source text

When I create and save a file in Bengali myself (Word and PDF), the font is displayed correctly in the source text. However, when I try to translate another PDF or Word file (from a customer), the Bengali font is not displayed correctly. The files themselves are not damaged and show the Bengali correctly. What can I do? Adjusting the Font under Options - Editir does nit help. (Freelancer Edition Trados Studio 2021 - 16.2.12.9338).

Thank you, Katja

Question improvement suggestion: Provide specific examples of the Bengali text that is not displaying correctly and clarify if any error messages are shown during the translation process.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello Katja,

    Step 1: **Check Font Settings**

Ensure that the font used in the source document is installed on your system and is supported by Trados Studio. Sometimes, specific fonts may not render correctly if they are not available.

    Step 2: **Adjust Encoding**

Try converting the source file to an encoding that uses a byte order mark (BOM). You can do this using Notepad++ by opening the file, selecting "Encoding" from the menu, and then choosing "Convert to UTF-8-BOM." Save the file and reopen it in Trados Studio.

Step 3: **Specify Encoding When Opening**

When opening the file for translation, specify the encoding. Click on "File" > "Translate Single Document," select the correct encoding, and then click "Open."

Step 4: **Modify File Type Settings**

Go to "File" > "Options" > "File Types" > "Microsoft Word 2007-2019" and ensure that the option "Skip advanced font formatting" is unchecked. This may help in displaying the Bengali font correctly.

    Step 5: **Use Workarounds**

If the issue persists, consider using the workaround of showing all tags but not formatting. This can be done by going to "File" > "Options" > "Editor" and selecting "Show all tags but do not show formatting." This will not affect the target document but may help in displaying the text correctly in the editor.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, please provide more details about the specific problems you are encountering, and I would be happy to assist further.
