Cannot use Microsoft Office spell check in Studio editor

I'm using Studio 2022 Professional (latest) and MS O365 and whenever I want to perform a spell check in the editor, I get this wondefully cryptic error message:

Error message in German stating that the spell check extension cannot be loaded. Mentions COM object type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.ApplicationClass' and HRESULT: 0x8002802B.

However, Hunspell works. The MS spell checker also works fine in Word.

I've tried a repair installation and re-installing Studio, both to no avail.

Question improvement suggestion: Provide the exact error message text and any specific error codes that appear when attempting to use the Microsoft Office spell checker.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

It seems you're experiencing issues with the Microsoft Office spell checker in Trados Studio 2022 Professional. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

**Step 1:** Verify Microsoft Office Installation

    - Ensure that your Microsoft Office installation is up to date. Sometimes, compatibility issues arise from outdated software.

    **Step 2:** Check DCOM Settings

    - Make sure DCOM is enabled on your PC. You can check this by navigating to the registry key `HKLM\Software\Microsoft\OLE` and ensuring the value for `Enable DCOM` is set to 'Y'.

    **Step 3:** Review WMI Services

    - Check that the following WMI-related services are running:

     - Remote Access Auto Connection Manager

     - Remote Access Connection Manager

     - Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

     - Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator

     - Remote Registry

    **Step 4:** Repair Microsoft Office

    - If you haven't already, try running a repair installation of Microsoft Office. This can often resolve issues related to the spell checker.

**Step 5:** Reset Trados Studio Settings

    - Close Trados Studio and navigate to `C:\Users\%USERNAME%\App Data\Roaming\SDL\Spell Checker`. Rename the `Spell Checker` folder to `Spell Checker_old` and then restart Trados Studio.

**Step 6:** Check for Conflicting Processes

    - Open Task Manager and ensure there are no lingering `Winword.exe` processes. If there are, close them and then try setting up the Microsoft Word Spell Checker again in Trados Studio.

    **Step 7:** Consider Upgrading Office

    - If the issue persists, consider upgrading to a newer version of Microsoft Office (e.g., Office 2021) that includes the necessary DLLs for compatibility with Trados Studio 2022.

If you continue to experience issues after trying these steps, please provide the exact error message you receive, as this will help in diagnosing the problem further.
