Copy & paste functions do not work properly in Source & Target fields in Translation Memories tab in Studio 2024

I encountered this issue the other day when searching for some translation in a reference TM in Studio 2024 SR1:

The copy & paste functions work just fine if I open a TM and click the Source/Target field right away.

However, if I click any TU after making a search or even after opening a TM, these function don't work any more in Source & Target fields, but I can copy & paste text in TUs.

Now, to get what is required, I can only: make a search and type the result I need elsewhere (which is inconvenient) OR make a search, copy & paste the result I need, close and re-open the TM and make another search (which is very time-consuming).

I tried some Google search on this matter but found nothing useful.

This issue doesn't exist in Studio 2017 (that I previously used), any advice on how to fix it is appreciated.

Question improvement suggestion: Provide specific details about your operating system and the exact version of Trados Studio 2024 you are using, as well as any error messages you may have encountered.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

It seems you are experiencing issues with the copy and paste functions in the Source and Target fields of the Translation Memories tab in Trados Studio 2024. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

**Step 1:** Ensure that you are using the latest version of Trados Studio 2024. Check for any updates within the application and install them if available.

**Step 2:** Try the workaround mentioned in the context: after selecting a Translation Unit (TU) following a search, close the Fields section and click on "Show Field Values" again. This may help restore the functionality of the copy and paste functions.

**Step 3:** If the issue persists, consider restarting Trados Studio and your computer to see if that resolves any temporary glitches.

**Step 4:** If you have not done so already, try creating a new Translation Memory (TM) to see if the problem is specific to the TM you are currently using.

**Step 5:** If none of the above steps work, it may be beneficial to report this issue to the Trados support team for further investigation, as it could be a bug related to the latest update.

I'm struggling to understand what you are doing.  Copy/paste seems to work fine for me and I can't find a way to break it.  Please can you provide me with the exact steps you follow.  Really spell out what feature you use, what text you copy, where you paste it etc.  Keystroke by keystroke so that I can mirror exactly what you're doing.

  • Below are the steps regarding the paste function that I had done:

    "Paste works" scenario

    1. Open Trados Studio, select Translation Memories pane/tab (at the bottom left of the app screen), and open a TM that contains some TUs.

    2. Copy any text in any apps: web browsers, MS Office, translation tools, etc.

    3. Click the "Source/Target text" field in the Search Details and paste the copied text, the function works fine.

    4. Press Enter to make a search, click the "Source/Target text" field again, paste any other text, and it stills works.

    "Paste doesn't work" scenario 1

    1. Open Trados Studio, select Translation Memories pane, and open a TM that contains some TUs.

    2. Click any TU, then click the "Source/Target text" field, paste any text and the function doesn't work.

    "Paste doesn't work" scenario 2

    1. Open Trados Studio, select Translation Memories pane, and open a TM that contains some TUs.

    2. Click the "Source/Target text" field, paste any text and press Enter to make a search that returns at least one match.

3-a. Click any TU, then click the "Source/Target text" field, paste any text and the function doesn't work anymore.

3-b. Copy any source or target text in the TU, paste it in the "Source/Target text" field, the function doesn't work anymore (but the copied text can be pasted in other apps: Word, web browser, etc.)

    Notes:

    1. The paste function works just fine in a blank TM, no matter what you do.

    2. If the TM contains TUs and a search doesn't return anything, the paste function works fine no matter what you do.

    3. In the "paste doesn't work" scenarios, when the paste function stopped working, I just happened to notice that I couldn't copy any text in the "Source/Target text" field and paste it somewhere else.

    4. When the paste stops working, the only workaround that I can find for now is to close and reopen the TM and apply the "paste works" scenario.
